Chapter Two: I Receive a Letter that Warns of a Terrible Plot

Hi, is this thing on? Huh, okay. So my name is Ronan Forman and I also had my life turned upside down like that Jesse kid. Similar situation too. I was as you would suspect, on a date with my girlfriend. It was bad.

It was a simple date to the movies. But her parents have only met me three other occasions for brief moments, and her father had never given me the "if you hurt her I'm coming for you," speech. And forgive me because I'm already ahead of myself. When I say 'her' I'm referring to my girlfriend Gwen Krista Sawyer.

Our story is one of those middle school love stories. Except we never even dated until halfway through our sophomore year of high school. So technically it isn't. But we've always had that nostalgic thing, as if we were each other's' childhood sweet hearts. You know what I mean?

It wasn't love right away for me at least. She kind of annoyed me. But it was nice to have a decently pretty girl who thought I was perfect, when I was self-conscious about pretty much everything. I mean, I had braces, and I was only like four foot seven in middle school... She was taller than me for as long as I could remember. Well not anymore, especially for all the kisses I have to bend down for...

But I didn't realize I had feelings for her until I saw her talking to other guys in freshman year. It bothered me. I didn't like that look in her eyes, or the hint of a smile she was hiding when she spoke to any of them. And I also found myself looking at her more and more. She started wearing sweatpants more, which I hadn't really seen her do before. But damn, it was attractive. Sometimes her hair would be up, and her eye liner would be smudgy, and she'd be all in sweats, and I still felt my cheeks heat up when she walked by. Somehow, sometimes that was even hotter than when she'd dress up and do her hair all nice. That always happened. Especially if one of my friends was there. They'd say hi and I'd have no choice but to ignore them or else sacrifice my reputation and say something stupid simply because she was in a five foot radius and could hear me. Her curly hair was getting longer, but her eyes were still the same. Sometimes if I was daring enough to meet her gaze in the hall, it seemed like she was trying to tell me something. I liked that. I liked her. And let me say, I got pretty damn possessive of her. If I didn't get her, no one should. Even if one of her guy friends hugged her, (thankfully she didn't have many) there would be a flicker of anger that I couldn't shake.

Okay sorry, getting ahead of myself. So I had to meet her parents for dinner before we went to the movies. Which was fine.

I showed up at her front door five minutes to six, when she'd asked me to show. I'd combed my brown hair, and it was kind of mussed and needed a trim. I hadn't had time though, and I don't have the best motor skills with scissors; never mind scissors around my head and neck. I'd brushed my teeth, worn a nice button up shirt. Despite Gwen's insistence that the sleeves looked better rolled up to my elbows, they were down to my wrists. And for good reason, it was fall already. All the leaves were either down on the ground, or on their way there. It was cold. I waited a good minute or two until Gwen's brother, Chris, opened the door.

"Hey Ronan," he said sheepishly. He was blond like his sister, but that was where the similarities ended. He had dark blue eyes, and hers were a dark green and brown. He was a little shorter than I, which felt weird because he was technically only in eighth grade . He had braces, and when he smiled, it tricked you into thinking he was a much younger kid.

"Sup Chris, where's your sis?"

"In her room," and he rolls his eyes. I should've known. I recognize the crackle of her record playing dedicating itself to the essential hits of Simon and Garfunkel from above the balcony.
