Chapter 1

Ella's POV

*ring ring* *ring ring* *rin-*

"Hello?"

"Hi Ella. How's it going? Are you there yet? Are there any cute guys?" Andy's voice comes from the phone.

"It's going, uh- great. Yep it's totally great here. All gr-" I try and put my best honest voice but Andy knows me too well.

"You're sitting in the car debating whether or not you should get out, aren't you?" She says it like a fact, not a question. I sigh and slam my head on the steering wheel, lucky the car is off so there isn't a loud honk.

"Yes." I mumble. "I can't believe I'm here, in San-Francisco, and I can't even get out of the fucking car. God I'm such a loser."

"Just go. It's going to be fine I promise. The worse that can happen is a maniac serial killer bursts in and shots everyone but that's like one in a million." She says it like there is nothing to worry about. But there is a lot to worry about.

"Thanks, now something else to put on the list of why I shouldn't go." I sigh and rub my temple with my left hand as my right is holding the phone. I look out and see all these happy people practically skipping across the grass field.

"Well here I have millions of reasons why you should get your ass out of that car. one) You wouldn't dare 2) You can't throw this amazing opportunity away because you're a little scared, everyone in that program is probably freaking out now thinking 'What the fuck am I doing here? I'm going to make no friends and be lonely as fuck.' just like you are doing now. But the point is you guys are all in the same position. You're meeting new people, learning new things, there is nothing to be scared of. 3) You are too smart to give up now, you've haven't even seen your room. 4) I di-" I interrupt her already feeling motivated.

"Okay, I get it. I'm leaving the car now." I bend over and grab my bag before opening the door and stepping out. I'm immediately hit with the smell of freshly cut grass and if happiness could smell like anything it would smell like this. I shut the door with a bang and start walking to a building with GOOGLE written in big colourful letters. "Okay, I'm out of the car and I'm walking and walking and I'm wal-"

"Okay, that's great. Now I want you to remember that no matter what I'm always here. I'll fly up for a weekend and I promise to call you every day. Good luck Ella. I believe in you." This is the first time I've ever really heard Andy so serious.

"Thanks Andy. You really helped me today. I'll call you tonight and tell you about my new room and roommate. But I have to go I'm getting closer to the door. I miss you bye." I say as the building in front of me gets bigger and bigger with every step I take.

"Miss you too. Have fun, and good luck. Bye." I drop the phone away from my ear and end the call.

"Okay you can do it. Just open the doors and find the main office." Wow, Andy is really rubbing off on me. I take a deep breathe before I pull the strap on my shoulder bag, containing my laptop, and walk in. The cold air from the vents hit me like a brick wall, but gives me an energy too hard to describe.

I scan around and see people walking around with their heads in the clouds. I see a middle aged woman, her computer hidden by the large white desk. I slowly walk up and clear my throat. "Hi."

The lady, judging by the name tag her name is Jane, snaps her head away from the screen to me, smiling sweetly. "Hi, are you a new Intern?"

"Yes, I'm Ella Mono." I nod my head as I fiddle with my hands. Jane smiles at me before bending down, disappearing from sight. A few moments later she pops back on her seat with two things in her hand. In one hand is a hat, a rainbow propeller hat to be exact, with the words 'Noogle' embroidered on the front and in the other is a blue lanyard. I can faintly see my name, college and picture as she still has it in her hands.
