"Marcus take her, I mean it" the exaughsted new mother gasped, turning her face away from the tiny bundle in her arms "I'm serious, no one can know I'm her mother, not jake, not clarke, no one" she said holding back the tears forming in her eyes, the figure who had been sat in the corner stood up slowly making his way towards the drained mother

"Abby, i don't have to take her yet, you are her mother, I can't rip that away" Marcus exclaimed standing by her bed side, as a stray tear slipped down Abby's face

"Marcus, we talked about this, we are going to forget about that night, you are going to raise our daughter and you will raise her right" Marcus was smart enough to not argue with Abby, she had kept this pregnancy a secret for the past nine months, they had made the agreement that Marcus would raise the baby and claim that the mother had died during labour, it was a solid plan, but Marcus was having doubts, he didn't know how he could take his child away from her mother "now you can take her, Take her to Jim, get her checked out and then take her home" Marcus walked towards Abby as she thrusted the new born into his arms, he gave her one last pleading look to say 'change your mind' but Abby just turned her face away.

"Your daughter is strong and healthy" the doctor said as he held the stethoscope to the tiny heart, he wrapped the small baby up and handed her back to Marcus "how is Abby?" He asked as Marcus just looked straight ahead "don't worry I already know, this baby cannot be identified as Abby's daughter" he nodded as Marcus gives Jim a half a smile.

"Thankyou Jim" he said heading towards the door with the baby wrapped up in his arms, as he got to the door he halted, something stopped him "her name..." He whispered slowly spinning around, he looked up to the doctor who was looking confused as to what Marcus was trying to get across "Alayha grace" he said looking down at the child in his arms "for her record" he said as Jim smiled towards him, nodding his head in acknowledgement.

"Mama" a small child called out as the door to their apartment swung open, a young girl, around a year and a half, came toddling towards the door to greet her mother. It had been a week since her mother had gone to the medical wing, claiming that she had come down with a virus. As she entered the door she slowly bent down and picked up the small child, giving a small whimper of pain, but that soon passed as she held her young child in her arms.

"Abby?" A strong voice bellowed as a man walked around the corner, a smile forming on his face as he laid eyes on his wife "you look much better, I guess the virus has passed then?" He asked walking towards Abby as she nodded her head smiling back at her husband, feeling guilty about the lie she had spun to hide her labour. "Come on Clarke, let's get mummy settled" the man said taking the child from Abby and walking towards the sofa, placed in the centre of the room.

Abby followed closely behind clutching her stomach discreetly as a surge of Pain hit her stomach, sitting down she looked at her husband as he kissed their daughter on the cheek "Hey Jake, the council is having an emergency meeting this afternoon, they need me there" Jake turned to his wife, his smile slowly fading as he looked at his wife disappointed.

"Abby you've just got back, you've been in medical all week, you may be better but you are still not 100%" he said looking at her "please Abby, you'll work yourself Ill again" he said trying to reason with his wife.

"Look Jake, I've missed a week worth of council meetings, I'm not going back to work, I'm just going to the meeting" she said looking at jake who looked as if he wanted to put an extra word in "jake I've made up my mind" she said sternly, as she put her hands out to Clarke who jumped into her mothers arms.

As the room filled with council members, Abby looked around, as much as she hated to admit it, she was looking for Marcus. For some reason the absence of the tall dark haired man put her on edge, she had only given birth to his child a mere 6 days ago and she was still longing to see the father of her secret child, to see that child. As she delved deeper into her thoughts of the man, the door swung open and the tall dark haired man Abby was longing for rushed in, his face flustered, his hair was messed- for Marcus mess meant that there were two or three strands out of place- Abby could also visibly see the dark circles forming under his eyes, she half smiled to herself, the one thing she dodged when she gave up her newborn were those sleepless nights that had just started to fade as Clarke grew older. Abby was so deep in her thoughts she was missing the conversation that was being held next to her.

"I'm incredibly sorry chancellor Sydney" Marcus's voice was all hoarse from where he had been rushing around "I couldn't get Alayha..." Chancellor Sydney smiled at the new father

"Marcus you have a newborn, it's expected" she smiled as she placed a hand on his shoulder "congratulations Marcus" the kind words of congratulations started circling around Marcus as his oldest friends Theolonius Jaha patted his shoulder as he laid eyes on Abby, sat with her eyes straight forward, clearly in her own world, Marcus was certainly surprised to see her there so soon after giving birth, but he was aware that he couldn't say anything.

"Abby?" He questioned walking towards her, as she snapped out of her deep thoughts and looked up at Marcus "h-how are you feeling?" He asked stammering on his words as he said them.

"I'm much better, Thankyou, I was released earlier today" she smiled looking up at him, she felt a few eyes settle on them, listening into their conversation "I hear that congratulations are in order" she said smiling, it was clear to the both of them that those words stung, but none of them could show the affect that it had. The council meeting was a general meeting with the council members discussing the fate of prisoners who had recently turned 18 and whether a second chance was in order or if their offences called for them to be floated.

As the council meeting came to an end and all the council members began to emerge from the sealed room, Marcus stayed seated, to exaughsted to raise himself from his chair, instead he sat staring at Abby, the last time he had spent time taking in was the night that things had changed between them, the night that led to the existence of his fragile child. As he was looking at the women that he desperately wanted to call his, he noticed differences in the women, her skin tone had grown pale, likely from the stress of child birth, her eyes were red and had a glimpse of sadness in her eyes, a sadness that could only be there when you've lost someone, something that is impossible to replace, yes Marcus knew that Abby hadn't exactly lost her child, she had given her rights up but there was still that twinge of desperation he saw everytime he looked at her. Marcus's thoughts were quickly interrupted by the door swinging open, Callie- a highly respected women- rushed in with a small fragile bundle in her arms, the bundle was frantically wriggling and squeaking, not crying as newborns don't tend to cry rather squeak.

"I'm so sorry Marcus, I have a class to teach and she wouldn't calm down" the women quickly said as Marcus stood up, rushing towards the women Marcus quickly scooped up the bundle placing her on his chest while he hushed her, quickly thanking Callie. As he spun around he saw thelonius and Abby stood staring at him, looking at Abby he saw the longing look in her eyes, before she turned away Marchs noticed a tear sliding down her cheek. Marcus repelled every urge he had to plunge forward and hold her while she cried and within twenty seconds Abby had fled the room. Thelonius stood, but surprisingly to Marcus his expression had no glimpse of confusion, it was a known fact the Thelonius knew practically everything, and it should be known that he was fully aware of the secret love child that Marcus was cradling so carefully on his chest, but he chose not to say anything and instead headed towards the door, halting for a small second to stroke the baby's head.

"Come on Alayha, it's just you and daddy for now" Marcus said as a small tear formed in his eye, slowly rolling down his cheek and creating a small splash on his daughters small curled hand
