ToTday was the day. The day Marcus Kane always finds bitter sweet. The day he gets to reflect on the many years he has spent with his daughter, cherishing every moment of happiness he has. But also getting him closer to the day where his daughter could move on and leave him. Her birthday. Every year on the 10th September Marcus would wake up an extra hour earlier just to make sure everything was perfect, he would sit in the same rocking chair that he sat in when she was a mere few weeks old and get lost in deep thought, always imagining what sort of life his daughter would be living the next year. It was his routine, and he woke up that morning and began his routine for the 17th time, but instead of imagining what his daughters life would become in the next year, he reminisced over the passed 17 years and how much joy he felt watching his child grow and then how much sorrow filled his heart when he thought about the mother who had given up all rights to her child and how much that mother had mussed out on, even though she had been right there at all the major milestones due to working on the same council, it still bought the messy haired man much sorrow, his daughter had never known the truth and he intended to keep it that way. The last 17 years, though bought much joy, they had not been too kind to Marcus and his personality. He began shutting people out, becoming more and more cold hearted to most of the people around him, with one exception for his daughter. Though he would never admit it, he was heartbroken, he had lost the person he loved, the mother of his child, so he closed himself off to everyone.

As Marcus' thoughts grew deeper he heard the floorboards creak, looking up slowly to catch a glimpse of his daughters petit frame stood at the entrance to her room, a small smile had formed on her lips as she looked at her dad sat in the rocking chair that held so many dear memories.
"Happy birthday Alayha" Her fathers deep voice rung out as his lips curled up, forming a wide smiled across his face
"Thankyou dad" she responded, edging Marcus to rise from the chair, walking over to his child and pulling her into a firm embrace
"oh wait i almost forgot" Marcus whispered, cutting the hug short and walking over to three bags sat on the counter "the bigger bag is from me and then you have one from Callie and one from Jaha" he said bringing the bags towards Alayha. Instantaneously she grabbed the bags and opened the one from Callie, It was a notebook and pens, something the girl had been longing for but struggled to save up enough rations for she smiled and placed the gift to one side and peered into the bag from the Jaha family, this gift was a book, a book of planet earth, Alayha had always been overly obsessed of finding out about earth, and longed to be able to live on earth at some point in her life time. The last present was from her father, She reached inside the bag and pulled out the items that were in there, the first item was a pair of black skinny jeans, close to new, she looked at her father and smiled, she had a small amount of clothes and was grateful for something else to add, she placed the jeans down and looked at the next item, a black vest and cropped grey hoodie, all of the items were barely worn, which was a rare occurrence on the ark. She looked up at her father to see him standing, over joyed at the look on his daughters face
"thankyou so much dad" she said jumping up into his arms and hugging him tight
"its okay lay, just go and get changed and we can head off" he exclaimed
She ran into her room, swiftly changing into her new clothing, admiring herself attentively in the mirror. She pulled her brunette hair into a messy bun and applied a small amount of makeup before waltzing out of her room. Marcus was stood by the door when his daughter walked into the hallway, for a moment he stopped and took in the fact that his baby girl was now a 17 year old. He was mesmerised at the fact that many of the girls features were extremely similar to his, the only thing that people always pointed out were her eyes. She didnt have her fathers eyes. She didnt have her mothers eyes. She had crystal blue eyes, she had Clarke's eyes. Nobody ever put two and two together though because everyone on the ark expected someone to have their parents eyes not their siblings.
"Daaaaaaad" Marcus snapped out of his day dream to see his daughters hand waving in front of his face, clearly noticing that his eyes were more focused on her Alayha spoke out "can i get to my shoes please" she said smiling, her father reciprocated the smile and made the pathway to the shoe rack clear for his daughter to access. After tying up her shoe laces Alayha looked towards her father, clapping her hands and bellowing out
"Lets go" causing her father to spin on his shoes in order to face the door to their small apartment and exit.

It was 9:25 and Abby had been leant on the wall outside of the council room, waiting desperately for anyone to come so she wouldnt have to be in a room alone with the newest member of the council. As she was waiting her heard a familiar laugh, the laugh of a teenage girl. Abby knew insttantly who that laugh belonged to. Her daughter. She had longed to share that laughter with her, especially today, she masked her pain and suffering well throughout the years and focused on the daughter she had but she always felt empty. As Alayha skipped around the corner Abby took a second to see how much the young girl had grown up since that day that she handled the small squirming bundle to Marcus. She must of been staring for too long because before she knew it Marcus' voice was bellowing, bringing her out from her deep thoughts about their chikd
"Abby, are you okay?" he questioned as she re gathered her thoughts and nodded before turning to the 'Marcus look alike' as she liked to call her
"Happy birthday Alayha" she said smiling and tentatively placing a hand on the girl upper arm
"Thankyou Abby" Alayha responded giving Abby her angelic smile
"Right Alayha, please do not be late tonight, ill make us some dinner" he said smiling at his daughter who in turn nodded, Abby loved seeing this side of Kane it calmed her and reassured her that the decision she made was indeed the correct decision.
Alayha went to leave before Marcus quickly pulled her into a tight embrace, planting a kiss at the very top of her head
"Happy Birthday baby girl, i love you" he whispered into her ear
"I love you too dad" she said before turning on her heels heading off to see her fathers mother.

Once she was out of sight, Kane's face immediately stiffened as he spun around facing the mother of his child. Her eyes were glistening from the tears that she was desperately trying to hold back, he recognised the look that she was giving, it was the look he saw on her face every time she spoke to their daughter, it was the same longing look she gave him the first time he saw her after she gave him their baby. Though it was only a look, it was a powerful one at that, it felt like a pinprick puncturing his heart. The moment that both Marcus and Abby had found themselves in was silent but held a thousand words, it was clear both of them wanted to say something, anything but there was something stopping them.
"Councillors?" a voice of authority broke the trance that they were both in, turning their attention to focus on the voice that beckoned them they found the chancellor looking at them
"sorry Theolonius, Alayha just left" Marcus babbled as the chancellor meerley nodded, knowing that what was happening when he exited the room was much more 'intimate' than what Marcus had attempted to explain. They all made their way in to the small conference room that the chancellor had briefly exited to round up the two missing councillor. As they all sat down, there was no wait, the chancellor dived right into the agenda of that day
"We all are aware that life support on the ark is failing" the chancellor said with a small hint of sadness in his voice as everyone nodded "The plan was to send 100 of our experts down to the ground in coming weeks, well i have decided against that plan" a few confused gasps and whispers took place as Marcus and Abby sat staring longingly at one another, they almost missed what the chancellor said next "I have decided that a better plan would be to send 100 of our underage prisoners to the ground, to see if it could be survivable" this sent gasps flying around the room as Abby's face dropped in shock, the realisation slowly dawning on her that it is possible that her daughter will be part of the 100 sent down to earth.

It was just after 10 and Alayha had sneaked back to the conference room to hear what exactly was so important that her father was skipping her birthday to go to. The majority of the meeting Alayha could barely piece together but the last sentence to come out of thelonius' mouth, she knew all to well, "send 100 of our underage prisoners to the ground, to see if it could be survivable" Alayha heard a few gasps before she stumbled back into an ancient oxygen tank making a loud noise, Alayha shot off before anyone could see her. When she finally came to a halt it dawned on her, Octavia, her best friend would be sent to the ground without her the thought hit her like a ton of bricks and she could all but sit in the silence next to planation station and plot how she would help Octavia to escape the torture that awaited her and the other 99 delinquants being prepared to shoot down to earth in three days.
