{Blaine's POV}
I woke up that morning not to the sound of my alarm but to a loud pounding on my wall. I sat up and rubbed my eyes. The perks of living in a bad neighborhood of NYC. I picked up my phone off the nightstand and turned it on. The time read 9:37 and a message from Sam glowed on the screen. Hey meet me down at the diner in half an hour. The message was only sent 5 minutes ago so I still had time to respond. Okay I'll be there. I quickly typed before hauling myself out of bed. I put on some grey skinny jeans, a blue vest over a white tee shirt paired with a navy blue bowtie with polka dots. I gelled my hair as usual and grabbed my keys before heading out. This is the same routine I've completed for 2 and a half years. 2 and a half years ago I was living in NYC, attending NYADA and dating the love of my life, actually we were engaged. I was engaged to a man by the name of Kurt Hummel. Not only was he the love of my life but he was also my best friend. But after a terrible break up I haven't spoken to him in two years. Kurt had moved back to Ohio a little over a year ago and every time I visited I feared seeing him there. It took me quite a while to get over the breakup but now that I'm living my life here in NYC with only Sam and Tina to comfort me, I think I'm doing pretty good. Of course Kurt and I have cut off all ways of communication but Tina and Sam still keep in contact with him, which I don't mind since they're his friends anyway. I drove up to the diner and parked my car in a free spot as Sam texted. You here yet?I didn't bother texting back, instead I just entered the diner and spotted Sam and Tina sitting together.
"Hey guys!" I called.
Tina smiled slightly but Sam jumped right into it.
"Dude, did you hear?"
"Hear what?" I said, raising my eyebrows.
"Kurt's coming back! He's going to be living here- well not here..." He said, gesturing to the table.
I opened my mouth to speak but Tina spoke up.
"He's getting married. In this town. I'd understand why you weren't-"
"Wait excuse me? He's getting married? To who?" I questioned, I tried not to sound concerned because I really wasn't.
"Um his boyfriend- what's his name? Chandler? Yeah I think that's it." Sam stated. He looked at me and raised his eyebrows. "Dude are you jealous?"
"What? No.. I just- I want what's best for Kurt." I said quickly.
Tina and Sam exchanged glances.
"Okay... You're just acting pretty weird about the situation..." Tina stated.
"How? I'm- I'm happy for him" I said.
"Alright..." Tina said, taking a sip of the water she had on the table.

A couple days later I got on the subway to get to school. (I was still attending NYADA) I sat down as I usually would and began checking things on phone. That was when I noticed something. I looked to the man sitting to the left of me. Just as I had suspected, Kurt was sitting right next to me, completely oblivious that I was starring. He must have noticed eventually because he turned his head and looked me straight in the eyes. His skin was paler than I remember, his hair a bit lighter but still styled the same way it had been. But the most major think I noticed where his eyes. They were exactly the same icy blue that I remembered, just as beautiful if not even more. He quickly snapped his head back down and looked at his lap, avoiding my gaze. I did the same and pretended not to notice him anymore.
"This doesn't have to be awkward." I heard him say after some moments of silence. I turned to look at him, just to make sure he was talking to me. Sure enough, Kurt's eyes met mine as I turned to him.
"Who ever said it was?" I replied, trying to sound calm. What? I mean, I was calm I just...
"No one has too." Kurt replied.
The subway came to a halt and Kurt stood up to leave. He began to walk toward the exit but I stopped him.
"Kurt wait!"
He spun around and looked at me with his same icy blue eyes.
"I- um... Congratulations." I said with a faint smile.
He smiled back and exited the subway car.

After a few days of awkwardly seeing Kurt on the subway, I received a text from him. I hadn't deleted his number and apparently he didn't delete mine either. Can you come over for a second I need to tell you something. With that he sent his address. I was a bit surprised he was asking me to come over but I tried not to think anything of it. I drove to the address Kurt had sent, which happened to be an apartment complex close to the one we had lived in together with Rachel. I quickly knocked on the door to his apartment and waited, rocking back and forth on my feet. Kurt opened the door, his hair a bit messier than usual. "Hi." He greeted me, hold the door open for me to come in. I stepped into his apartment cautiously before asking. "So why did you want to see me again?"
"I just thought, this really shouldn't be too awkward. I want to be able to go out with our friends and have you there."
I nodded.
"I also wanted to make sure you knew there was definitely nothing between us," He spoke softly.
"Obviously," I responded.
"Good." He ran his hand through his hair. "Do you want something to drink?"
"That would be nice, thank you." I replied, trying to sound polite.
He made us quick cups of coffee and we sat down on the couch together.
"Oh my god. I brought you here so this wouldn't be awkward but I guess that's sort of impossible." He said after a few minutes.
"No, no. I- I can leave if you want," I said, gesturing to the door.
"No, please stay." He whispered, looking down at his coffee.
Neither of us said anything for a few moments until I spoke up. "Are you okay? You're acting strange... I know I haven't talked to you in so long but we were best friends for 4 years-"
"No. I'm not okay. I'm supposed to be getting married but..." He looked up at me with tears in his eyes. "I don't know if it's right."
I scooted closer to him and put my arm around his shoulders. "Kurt, if you really love him-"
"I don't. And I know I don't because.." He choked on his words as he began to cry.
I tipped his chin toward me so our faces were only inches apart. We moved closer together and soon enough, his lips were on mine. We kissed for a couple seconds before Kurt pulled away.
"We can't do this." His whispered onto my lips.
"You're right, I'm sorry." I said. I moved away from him a little bit, our eyes still locked.
"Blaine. I- I missed you so much." Kurt said quietly. "The reason I wanted to come here wasn't because it was the place Chandler and I met, it was because I hoped I would be able to see you." His head hung low. "I know you don't care about me anymore but I wanted you to know that I still-" His face filled with horror as he looked up at me. "Oh my god are you with someone?"
I smiled. "Theres no one else." I leaned in and kissed him again.
"Can we just keep this a secret?" Kurt said, smiling.
"Yes." I replied. "I'd better get going. Text me, okay?" We stood up and walked toward the door. Before I stepped out I leaned over and whispered in his ear, "Come to my apartment at 8:30 at night tomorrow." Kurt blushed and pushed me out the door. "Bye, see you tomorrow!" He said.• • •
A/N
Ayeee I've been really excited to post this as I've been writing it for a couple weeks. I'm currently working on Chapter 5 which means I'll have a few chapters ready to post. I'm also making a limit of 1000 words per chapter on this story since my other ones had such short chapters. Okay enough rambling, I hope you enjoyed the story ❤
