Betrayal In South Shields{SHORT STORY}

Second

Sunday Afternoon 2:19 pm

Jed and I have been strolling through town for about an hour now. We decide to stop at the fountain and just take a break from walking.

Once I sit down I put my bag down in between Jed and me. I notice two guys keep glancing over and it's kind of getting weird. "Hey Jed, do you know those two over there?" "Huh? Oh uh no, why?" The way he answered that was sort of weird, I must've startled him I guess. "They just keep looking over here and it's kind of getting weird."
"Oh, want me to go say something?"
"No it's fine." I reply and decide to use my super hearing device to listen in on what they're saying. "Hey can I have some of your Gatorade?" Jed asks as I discreetly try to put the device in my ear. "Yea sure, go ahead." I reply. As I listen in I hear them say that Chris would be delighted to know that I'm here. It takes me a second but I realize they're talking about Chris Khans who is the leader of D.A.R.E.S. I need to get out of here.

"Hey Jed can we go meet up with one of my friends real quick?" I ask. "Yea of course Jade." He replies with a smile. As we make our way to the meet up spot I text Leigh-Anne and tell her what just happened. She texts me back saying we should do the drop off another day when D.A.R.E.S. isn't so close in proximity. We agree that we'll try again tomorrow night. "She actually just canceled on me so I'm gonna head home." "I'll walk you home then."
"Okay." I shortly reply. As we walk, we talk about plans for the rest of the week since we're each on a break from college this. Once we get to the door Jed gives me a kiss on the cheek and says good bye.

I go inside and lock the door behind me. "Mam! Are you home?" I ask. "In the kitchen dear!"
"Hey mam." I say and greet her with a kiss. "How was the drop off?" She Asks. "We actually decided to reschedule. I found out two members of D.A.R.E.S. were there."
"Oh no, Jade I don't want you doing this by yourself. Let me go with you."
"No mam, you've already retired, I don't want you hurting yourself." "But-"
"I'll be fine, Leigh-Anne will be with me."
"Okay, fine."

I reach into my bag to find the lipstick containing The "Book" of Knowledge and discover that it's gone and find a note instead. It's from D.A.R.E.S and it's telling me to go their headquarters if I want to get it back. "Mam look at this." I say and show her the note. "You can't go there alone Jade, I won't allow it, they're the reason your dad never came back, I won't allow it." She says sobbing. "Mum, it's okay," I say hugging her, "I'm gonna get Leigh-Anne to call for Jesy and Perrie, it's gonna be okay I promise you." I tell her and give her a kiss on the cheek as I let her go. "Please, be careful Jade." I wipe her tears and reply "Of course mam, I'll be back, I swear."
