Another boring day at school, I thought to myself as I skateboarded home. It’s been about 3 or 4 days since the new neighbors moved in. I was so busy staring at the boy that I fell of my skateboard. OUCH! Stupid brain, stop staring at the new boy. He was always outside doing yard work in his blue jeans & a white tee.
I stood up & brushed myself off. Freedom! I thought to myself. Today was the last day of school, finally. I had the summer to enjoy. Lounging around all-day. Skateboarding at the park. Reading magazines. Writing songs. Finally. Summer’s mine.
It has been a couple hours since I’ve been up in my room, jamming out to music. Music is my way of escaping everything. I had downloaded some new R&B tracks & messed with them a bit. They had turned out to be some epic remixes! Credit to me. For once in my life, I was proud. I was happy.
“DAKOTA! Dinner!” My trance was interrupted by Mike… I went into the bathroom to wash up & headed downstairs.
“You haven’t changed yet?”
“No. I’ve been busy.”
“Ok, well, after dinner I need a favor from you if you’re ok with that?”
“Sure, anything for you Mike.” I plastered a fake smile on my face & then sat down to eat something that looked like a calzone. I dug in & once I was done, I took our plates to the kitchen. I washed & dried them & then went in the living room to see what Mike wanted me to do.
“Thanks for doing the dishes, Kota.”
“So, what was the favor you wanted me to do after dinner?”
“I want you to go over to the new neighbors house & give them this.” He handed me an envelope. “Also, Dakota, introduce yourself to the young boy. I think you guys will become very good friends.” He said with a big grin on his face.
“Alright, I’ll be back later.”
I really didn’t want to go over there. What if the new boy saw me fall earlier? That would be embarrassing. But I promised Mike. Better late than never, I guess…
