Chapter 1 - The Gunshot

I felt uncomfortable. I wanted to leave. But I was obliged to stay and listen as my mothers friend talked to her. "My, you have such beautiful hair. It's chestnut brown, just like your fathers!" I smiled politely and nodded. If only she knew that whenever I look into the mirror all I see is dark black.
Everywhere I looked all I saw was black or white. The doctor said it was called 'splitting' and that I had a "borderline personality disorder", being only five at the time, I just listened to him in confusion. 

I excused myself and sat beside my five year old sister, Rose, the dreaded moment had arrived. The beast had entered. I hugged Rose tight and closed my eyes as his voice boomed across the room. I could smell the alcohol in his breath from the other end of the room. "WHAT IS THIS! GET OUT! ALL OF YOU! GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!"

I watch as all our guest left the house giving pitiful glances at my mother. Once everyone left my mother started her part of the drama. " WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? YOU GO OUT DRINKING LEAVING US ON OUR OWN AND YOU YELL AT ME FOR INVITING MY FRIENDS! YOU KEEP WASTING OUR MONEY......"

Rose hugged me closer as our parents continued fighting. But there was something different today, as if something sinister was about to happen. SLAP. I opened my eyes and screamed.
