The rain thrashed against my bedroom window, drops trickling down the crystal clear glass. I sat curled up on the window seat cushion, slowly stroking the light green and lace throw pillow. It had my name, Cecelia Winters, written in white danty cursive. My shoulder leaned against the ice cold glass, the chill slowly spreading up my arm. I slid my hand up the window and traced the drops as they trickled down the glass, my finger slowly numing from its icy touch.
I closed my eyes and stretched out my palm, taking in a sharp beath as the chill hit my delicate skin. Despite the peaceful atmosphere, I couldn't completely push away the nagging loneliness that tugged at my heart. It was a dull ache that I had begun to accept as a permanent condition I would never escape.
I was pulled back to reality with the cheerful ring of the doorbell. Dazed and confused I stumbled accross my room, finally catching my bearings as I turned toward the stairs. My parents were out on a date night, so I had the whole house to myself, which was actually pretty nice. I lazily slumped down the stairs, my ginger girls bouncing against my shoulders.
I assumed it was Maya, my best friend, coming to harass me about trying out for the softball team. Ever sense she found out I was, as she calls it, "hiding my extraordinary pitching skills," she has been nagging me to join the school league. Fully annoyed at this point, I aggresively swung the door open ready to choke down another one of her lectures. To my suprise the door opened to a boy about my age, looking about as confused as I was.
"You're not Maya...uh, I mean, can I help you?" I choked, my face burning. He raised one eyebrow, a grin slowly spreading across his face.
"Uh yeah, I don't know who Maya is, but im Ben."
