‘Muuuum, why do I have to take her to the fair? I DON’T WANT TO!’ I shouted
‘Sorry darling but you have to; you can catch the bus there! It will be fun and a nice time to bond with your sister.’ Mum explained
‘Fine then! If Stella isn’t ready by the time I’m leaving, I’m going without her!’
Stella came running down the stairs in her bright pink shoes. I had been waiting for about half an hour for her to get ready. She says that she takes her time because there might be boys there. GOSH, 9 year olds these days. We got our bus tickets and headed down the street towards the bus stop. We have to catch the 9:51 bus to the city. The trip takes about an hour.
The bus was small and cluttered with lots of people. Stella and I were huddled together trying to avoid the people that were standing, bumping into us. The bus started to slow and some of the passengers were asking what was wrong. I knew we weren’t at the city yet because we just only left town and we still had about 30 minutes to go.
Everyone was moaning. ‘WHY HAS THE BUS STOPPED? I AM GOING TO BE LATE FOR MY MEETING, IF I AM LATE I WILL BE FIRED!!’ a man in a black suit shouted, he was really loud. Stella winced as if something had hit her in the chest ‘That man was really loud,’ she whispered to me. ‘It’s okay,’ I reassured her.
We decided to get off the bus and go exploring for a while because it looked like we weren’t going anywhere anytime soon. There were lots of pine trees surrounding us. This place seemed endless but I knew it ended somewhere, but not here.
We were walking for a while then something caught my eye…
‘Can that be a time machine? No it can’t be, that’s impossible. Why would I find a time machine out here in the middle of nowhere?’ I thought. I started to walk towards it. The shape of it looked like a toilet cubicle I’d see at a fair or show. I couldn’t believe my eyes; a time machine was standing right in front of me. I opened the rusted door and stepped inside the squished space. One of the 4 walls was covered in thousands of buttons so I shut my eyes tightly and pressed a random one…
WHOOSH……SWISHHH…..
The ride was very loud my ears felt like they were bleeding, the sound was piercing. The ride was very bumpy, I was shaking like crazy! I stepped out of the machine; I couldn’t believe my eyes……
Everything was so different! The skies were a beautiful colour better than home. There weren’t as many cars and houses as there were back home. The houses were mansions! They were MASSIVE! I walked down the main street; the shops were full of colours. I finally found a shop I liked; it was a jewellery shop down one of the side streets. I saw a poster and it read:
2093 END OF YEAR SALE!!!! 20% OFF EVERYTHING!!!
I couldn’t believe how far I came. I thought that the time machine was stupid and it was useless, but I was wrong.
I brought a pair of lovely gold earrings there so they didn’t think I was a weirdo just standing there. As I walked along the street I saw a guy, he looked about my age. His eyes were gorgeous they were bright blue. His hair was a brown with blonde tips. I knew straight away it was love at first sight. So I walked toward him, I introduced myself to him. His name was Seth.
We went walking around town for a couple of hours; I think we went into every shop.
‘So where do you live? I asked Seth
‘Oh, I live just around the corner.’ He replied
‘What about you?’ he added
‘Well please don’t laugh, I was on a bus going to the fair in the city then the bus broke down and I found a time machine and I travelled to this year.’ I answered
‘WOW! That’s AMAZING! So what year are you from?’
‘Um 2013,’
‘Well you could stay with me, I’m sure my mum and dad won’t mind.’ Seth suggested.
‘Awesome, so let’s go!’
We walked along the road towards Seth’s house. We walked into the front gate. My jaw dropped in shock, his house was MASSIVE! We walked inside the front door the house looked amazing, everything was in its place. Seth asked his mum if I could stay, she said yes. That was a relief because I was starting to think what if she said no. Seth showed me around and where everything was.
‘Oh yeah and one of my grandma’s friends are coming over tonight for dinner because it is the anniversary of her sister going missing in 2013. So please don’t feel embarrassed.’ Seth explained to me.
‘Okay sure!’ I replied
When the lady came over, everyone greeted her fondly. When she saw me she looked confused and tears started flowing down her frail face. Everyone looked worried because they didn’t know what was going on and why she was crying. I felt bad as well because she only started to cry when she met me.
‘You won’t believe this but when I was 9 years old my mother sent my sister and I to the fair. The fair was a few hours’ drive away so mother sent us on the bus. I remember us huddled together because it was crowded then next thing I knew the bus broke down. We decided to go for a walk; she walked faster than me so I was trailing behind her. Then next thing I remember she’s gone. That young lady there standing next to you is my sister, the sister that I loved so much and lost so many years ago. We never stopped looking for you. Mother and Father died never know what happened to you.’ Tears were racing down Stella’s wrinkled face.
This even made me start to tear up, the way she explained it was so heart-warming. For me I haven’t seen her for a few days but for Stella it’s been so many years, without her big sister. I took a massive step forward and wrapped my arms around Stella.
I stayed with Stella who had missed so much over the last 80 years. We talked about so much about what had happened since I went missing.
*ONE YEAR LATER*
I woke up this morning this morning to find that she had away peacefully during the night. My eyes started to fill with tears; I walked over to the kitchen bench to find a note that read:
Dear Lucy,
I love you with all my heart, always have, and always will. I always felt growing up that you were out there somewhere. It was wonderful to have you close for the last year. I am sick and I knew this time would come eventually. Please do me a favour and make the most of your life and be happy. You will always be in my heart.
Love Stella xoxo
