Claire's POV:
"Hey Peyt?" I say slowly walking out the bathroom after taking a quick morning shower to freshen up.
"Yeah C?" He says poking his head around the corner of the hallway
C, probably one of the simplest nicknames I've ever had, but it was cute.
"You sure you don't mind me staying here?, I can always find an apartment to rent." I say looking down at my pale white feet.
"Of course not! We're basically roomies now!" He says laughing while walking down the hallway to his room.
I quickly run to the spare bedroom where I keep all my stuff now. He was super nice for letting me have this room. It really did mean a lot to me. We had a lot to do today, so I decided to go ahead and pick out a casual outfit. I chose a small gray halftop that me & my mom picked out at the beginning of summer last year, and these DIY shorts we did when we actually had fun times before she started drinking again, either way.. Those are things I'll never forget about her. We had to go clean up my house before we decided what we would do with it. Yes, I said we. Peyt's been more than helpful the last 24 hours and I wouldn't imagine where I would be mentally if it wasn't for him.
"Hey C, are you ready?" He yelled from downstairs as he's packing his laptop into his bag.
"Yeah let me put my hair up & I'm ready!" I yell from upstairs still.
I run downstairs and to my surprise he had fixed us pancakes while I was getting ready, see what I mean by sweet?
"Aweh, you shouldn't have!" I say even though I'm stuffing my face. Totally unappealing most likely.
"Anything for my new roomie" he says laughing at the fact I have syrup running down my chin.
He did that sorta thing actors do in movies. Sorta like in Game Plan, how the little girl licks her thumb and wipes off the stuff off his chin. Whatever you call it, it really had a spark when he touched my chin. I giggled and continued eating because hey, who doesn't like food? Then reality hit me, my mom was gone. I couldn't seem to swallow what I had in my mouth before bursting into tears again.
"C WHATS WRONG, PLEASE" he yells grabbing me assuming I'm choking.
"She's really gone Peyt.. She's really gone.." I say through my gasps for air.
"I'm so sorry Claire.. I wish I could do something to take the pain away.. I really mean this.." He says, "here.. I managed to grab this off your moms table in a little box"
I opened the box, and I found a letter with the actual mermaid tear necklace.. Mom had planned on doing this to herself.. The letter said:
Dear Claire,
My dearest baby.. I'm so sorry for all the pain, tears, fights, guys, and drinks I have put you through. You're always going to be the one person I needed the most. You have helped me even when you couldn't help yourself.. Thank you for being my #1 supporter..
Love always,
Mom
Ps: when you wear the necklace & it glows in the dark, it's so you know you aren't alone
I instantly broke down into tears once again, Peyt latched the necklace around my neck, and cupped it with his hands so I could see it glowing.
"See, she's here always C.. Always, you're never alone. I'm not going to leave you, I promise" he says while holding me. We're still on the floor, when I feel his lips connect with my forehead.
"Everything's going to be okay. I promise you this." He says while picking me up from my position on the floor.
We both looked at the clock, and realized it was almost 10:00 AM, and we still had to go to the mall and get me some stuff. Peyt refused to let me keep anything that would further upset me. Only certain things. When we reached the mall, we instantly went to Forever 21, the place where you feel legal enough to drink, but sadly leave either underaged, or overaged. We bought me some designer clothes, from Forever 21, Hollister, Aero, Pink, and Claire's, funny right? My name. We went to a thrift store downtown because I liked having vintage things in my room. We found this super cute bed set that was literally something I've been dying to find. It was plain white, but yet looked so elegant. I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to my room, we also found one of those tribal print sheet things that you hang above your bed, to give it a background. It was simple, yet just enough.
"You sure this is everything you want? I'm paying, no if ands or buts about it" he insists.
"Well if that's the case," I say with a smirk, "how about some Starbucks?"
"Typical white girl" he laughs
"Stereotypical white boy I see" I say laughing back
We bought the things we had from the thrift store, and drove over to the Starbucks 2 miles away.
"Hello, welcome to Starbucks how may I help you?" The man says through the speaker
"Uh yeah, I need a double chocolate chip mocha frappe, and a ---" he looks at me. My jaws dropped, he likes the same thing I like.
"The same thing Omg" I say quickly breaking the silence.
"Make that two of those actually, with extra chocolate drizzle" he adds
Okay I know this seems fast, but I think this may be love. I mean, the boy loves the same Starbucks as me, this has to be a sign. We pull up the window and pay the cashier the $6.78 for each of our drinks, and head home. Sadly we passed my old house, but I try to stay positive and think about how good life may be in the future. Peyt grabs my hand, and tells me how beautiful I look today, when all of a sudden a cat runs across the road
"PEYT WATCH OUT" I yell
He slams on the break my seatbelt didn't catch in time, and I slammed into the dashboard. My head hurt super bad...
