A/N: I feel like James would have done something like this if they had been married very young. The young marriage isn't my headcanon (I feel like they would have waited until they were both a bit more mature, James and Lily had common sense although they acted on impulse), but I decided to write for it. What can I say, angst is fun to write.

Kissing in the Rain

"James!"

I woke up with a scream. The man I loved wasn't beside me, and it was my fault. We were young with a baby, and we both had said some things we shouldn't have.

He was at Sirius'. He HAD to be. Or at Remus or Peter's. There was no other place. I convinced myself of this, and staggered down the hallway, ringing up James' best friend on the phone that I had forced him to hook up.

"Heeeeello!"

"Sirius, you're drunk," I said sternly.

"Lily?"

"Yes."

"Wha' d'you need?"

"James."

"Why're you callin' me?"

"Isn't he at your place?"

"Nooooope!"

"Shit," I muttered, hanging up. I called Remus, then Peter, but neither of them had seen James.

I leaned against the wall, pinching the bridge of my nose. Tears followed soon after.

Harry began to cry. I loved him so much. He was my pride and joy, and he looked exactly like James.

"Harry, shhh," I whispered, staring down at his red face and green eyes as I rocked him, "shhh."

His eyes widened, and he stopped abruptly.

"Dada?"

He was two months. Harry James Potter was two months old. Was that a random sound choice, or was he actually speaking? A remarkable baby, Dumbledore had said. Mine and James's remarkable baby.

"Dada!" he yelled. Definitely not a random sound choice. And that was his first word. I started to cry again, my tears dripping on his face.

Harry was quickly set on the ground, and I began to sob in earnest.

"Why is this so hard?" I cried as though Harry would answer, "Why does he always..." I gulped.

I had to find him. Something terrible would probably happen if I didn't.

I put Harry back in his crib. Grabbing my wand, I stormed out the door and locked it.

It was raining. The rain mingled with the tears on my face and dripped into my red hair, tangling the mess that it was even more.

The park. He was bound to be there. The clouds darkened, rain pouring down.

"Lumos," I said hoarsely. The tip of my wand lit with a faint, pulsating light. Dimmer than usual.

"JAMES!" I screamed through the roaring weather.

I heard a faint voice, calling "Lily" from somewhere.

"James..." I sobbed.

A dark figure emerged from the shadows, and I pointed my wand at him.

"Sh-Show yourself."

"Lily..."

"James!" I ran to him, hugging him tightly, and immediately began to blubber again.

"I- I thought you were gone, and I, I fucking NEED you James!"

"Lily... I don't know what I was thinking. I got angry and ran off to the pub down the road, and I got drunk, then I ended up down here and I suppose I got lost, and then the rain started, and now, well yeah..."

"I thought you were gone..."

"Lily. I LOVE you. I love you with all I have, and I can't live without you. Every day, I am frightened to death of what would happen if I lost you in the war, and I KNOW that we will pull through, because you have talent, and I have talent, and hell, if we listen to Dumbledore, even HARRY has talent. We'll make it."

I stared into his hazel eyes, my own green prickling with tears as I spoke with a hushed voice.

"James, Harry SPOKE while you were gone. He said "Dada". His first words were calling for YOU, right at the moment when you weren't there!"

James looked at me, guilt written all over his face.

"Lily, I... I don't know what to say, I'm sorry..."

"Screw it. You don't have to be, I've found you."

My lips met his, searing hot and sliding in the rain. We stood, his arms wrapped tightly around my waist, and mine gripping his wild hair as though my life depended on it. It was needy, hot, and it was US.

"I love you James. Remember that," I whispered as we briefly broke apart for air, "I love you so much."

"I adore you, Lily Potter," James replied the oath, "I love you with my heart and soul."

And our lips met again, the two of us one solitary figure in the freezing rain, the heat binding us together.

Water streamed until we were shivering, but we didn't care because we hadn't been this passionate in ages.

We remembered Harry, eventually. Our darling baby whom we had to go home to.

But the kiss in the rain sealed the fact that no matter how hard we might try, we were fated to be bound together.
