Night began to fall and I felt a severe shudder down my spine. The field of vision before my very eyes left me astound of course, in a frightening way. I bit my lip hard and shut my eyes, the image of the spooky manor had once again filled my mind. I fished the rectangular piece of metal out of my bag and held it tight between my folded fingers. I just wanted to return the phone and afterwards, I'm done.
I looked around, hoping to see something affecting to boost the left confidence inside me. But as my eyes landed on the mansion again, the courage melted away. Finally, I let out a frustrated sigh and strolled towards the front door. A broken lamp post was standing tall beside it, dusts housing the entire thing. The doors looked pained. There were scratches and marks all over it.
My hand made its way to make contact with the surface of the door but as I was about to knock, it slowly cracked open, making me jump in huge fright. I backed away a bit and peeked to see what the inside looked like. I swear, I could mentally hear the hums of ghosts and spirits I could imagine when I'm watching television and movies. A frosty wave had left a chill in my stomach.
Dandelion. The light of the whole place was eye-blindingly bright. The blaze came from a big chandelier which looks precisely expensive. My mouth watered at the sight. There was a long staircase, fancy materials at each end of each step. And a long red carpet at the middle.
I tiptoed towards the end of it but my feet caused noise against the marble floor. Wow. This place looks utterly extravagant. I can't imagine describing it as old and creepy few minutes ago.
"Yes," A voice croaked, making me jump from my harmony. "Vous ne vous attendiez pas cela, vous l'avez fait?"
"Je ne l'ai pas." I sheepishly smiled at the odd-dressed man standing inches away from me. "I apologize, sir. But I don't really speak French that fluent."
"Oui. Where did you learn, my dear?" He clasped his hands together and rubbed them, his hazel orbs studying me from tip to toe. He looks strange; err, very, and on the nose strange.
A big round hat was on his head full of flower petals on top and a scarf around his neck. The pale blue sleeves lies underneath his bright red shirt which read 'Bienvenue en France!' and the black knee pants filled with glitters at the end and lastly, his black TOMS was slipped on. It actually made me think he's a cosplayer or something. Sure I've seen the same weird outfit before.
I mentally grimaced and at the same time snickered at the range of view. But I instead held back my laughter and extended my hand where his phone was safely tucked in. "My mother, monsieur." I handed him his phone back and politely smiled. "It was nice meeting you, though. I really have to go. Bonne nuit!"
As I'm about to reach for the door handle, his voice startled me. I could've pee on my skirt.
"Attendez! I believe I owe you something, darling." He swiftly draw near me and folded his arms over his broad chest. "Come on, tell me what you want."
I studied his face for a moment, believing his emotion would change anytime soon. But as it doesn't, I nearly frowned. "I beg to disagree, I'm not one of those people you think I am. I'm not and I won't ask for any favor in return, sir. I'm glad that I helped." And it's true. I didn't really bestowed the phone for a garland. I was more of pushed by guilt.
