Crash. "Search the building. Leave nothing behind," followed by more glass shattering, breaking under the pressure.
There was so much ruckus.
I was swaying softly in a pair of strong arms that it was lulling me to sleep but I was still scared by the sudden noise.
Quick footsteps were heard crunching beneath the snow.
There was a heavy breathing, an erratic heartbeat but a familiar warmth, comforting me. "It's okay. Shh. It'll be okay." he said in a soothing voice heavy with his lovely accent as if sensing my distress.
There was an explosion in the background.
A chorus of people screaming out cries of help.
One by one they were silenced and the stench of blood filled the air.
More explosions could be heard , echoing in the eerie night.
My head felt drowsy and I dearly wished to snap my eyes open to know what exactly happened to everyone.
I pried my eyes open with the strength I could muster and shifted myself to get a better view.
The dark night was illuminated by a single fire scorching the earth.
From this distance it appeared as a candle of destruction was set ablaze as billows of smoke rose towards the sky.
The broken glass was raining , crackling, gleaming downwards like falling stars.
I felt my cheek grow cold and wet. A warm hand caressed my cheek softly wiping away my stray tears.
I looked at my own hand as thick tears streamed down.
I hadn't noticed when, but my small body was quietly shaking, sobbing it's heart out at the sight.
The footsteps slowed to a stop and I was set down.
"Oh , don't cry. You'll be safe.I'll keep you safe." He whispered as he placed his forehead against mine, never letting me go from his grasp. His silver eyes glimmered even in the dim light the night had to offer, firmly staring into my own golden pools that reflected back his affectionate gaze but his held within a glint of silent determination. "Come on . We're almost there. Grab hold of me and don't let go."
The snow kept falling ever so slowly, carelessly , mixing with the blacken ashes into my chubby palm as I inspected it. Absently searching within it for a way to numb the pain that threatens to muddle my head with sorrow.
Closing my palm, I reached out to him nodding and gave him a weak smile.
He gingerly hoisted me up and I clung on to his jacket, snuggling my head at the crook of his neck. His soft golden locks tickling my nose. I breathed in deeply taking in his scent. He smelled of pine, of fresh snow and the sweet fragrance of home.
