All is Fair.

Life was always simple for Daniel Howell, aka me. Everything was practically handed to me, and if it wasn't, I didn't have to work an excurtiating amount to achieve just what I was after. Everything always went perfectly according to plan for me, down to the very last detail. If little Danny wanted something, he got it. Just how he wanted it.

Life has up and downs for everyone, but for me, everything was perfect. I grew up with both parents in a fairly good financial status, in a fairly nice city.

So naturally, that's what I became. A city boy.

I grew up with the best of them. The toughest bunch of guys and girls in the town. Of course, I'm not very strong myself. I'm actually quite scrawny. Tall, yes. Built, no.

Me and my mates sort of had this 'gang' arrangement going on. A small family of misfits that nobody cared for. We watched out for each other, and protected one another. Like a pack of wolves.

Now, don't get confused. It's complicated, I know. I grew up with a perfect life. All of the money and toys and food I could want. What more was there to ask for?

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't envious of the hardships other people faced. I never had to worry about a thing. I never feared, I never felt heartbreak, I never felt what it's like to be unpopular.

So I tried to blend in. I tried to seem broke, and sad all of the time, so I could be normal, so I could have challenges in my life.

It worked for most of my life. Until I reached the age of about 19. And I met this guy. He was tall, like me. 6'4", 6'5" ish. Black hair like that of the darkest night, and blue eyes, the colour of a bright beauriful day. He had milky pale skin, almost a sickly white, but just enough colour to make him seem alive, and breathing.

His name was Phillip Lester.

He had moved down to my city after His father had aquired a new job.

I was on my gap year, and I was enjoying my daily cup of tea at the "Lowtown Café.". I stopped at this little restraunt every morning before I went about my day.

And the first day, I noticed him. Sitting by the window by himself, messing with his laptop and enjoying a coffee.

I blew him off at first.

Until I saw him the next day. And the next, and the next..

One day, I got the courage to speak to him, you know. Just to see who he was.

Right as the waiter walked over to his booth, I slid in opposite to him, and before he could open his mouth, I spoke for him.

"One Decaf Coffee, no creamer. Oh, and a hot Earl Grey. Thank you."

The waiter gave me a strange glance, before he walked off.

I turned to the new man, and smiled a cheeky smile.

"Sorry if that seemed creepy. I come here everyday, and happened to accidentally memorise your order."

He nodded once, and gave half a smile, probably feeling a bit concerned as to what I was going to say next.

"Name's Dan. Dan Howell." I extended my hand for him to shake it, and to my relief he did.

"My name is Phil. Pleasure's mine."
Then he gave me the possibly brightest smile I had ever seen.

"So, what brings you to this little café? Don't you have a big meeting to make it to?"
I asked, indirectly speaking of his briefcase which obviously had nothing more than a laptop in it.

"This place has the best wifi, and I've been trying to purchase the entire first season of 'Black Butler' for as cheap as possible."

He said the magic word.

"Did you say Black Butler???" I pretended to be quite suprised, slapping both of my cheeks with my hands and leaving my mouth agape.

"Uh, yeah-"

"I Have the first season, if you want to come over and watch it sometime!!"

I interrupted with way too much eagerness.

"That sounds lovely!!" Phil chimed in as our drinks arrived, and he picked his small mug up, delicatley sipping on it.

"I can tell we're going to be good friends, Phil."

And we did.
