The night hid Roslyn like it understood her need for concealment.
The pine roots of the moonlit forest were all ragged and above ground, perfect for a runaway refugee to fit underneath. One certain tree seemed to breathe with the young girl as she rasped out air in such a desperate fashion. The root before her eyes was too close to focus on, but she tried to ignore the small bugs moving on it. Roslyn's mind was currently caught up in the possibility that her heart was pumping loud enough to hear. She risked a cough that had been nagging the back of her throat, but soon regretted it, hearing
"EAS RACHNOUGH, SHUI SHUI! "
Oh no. Oh no!
Fidgeting in fright, Roslyn started to panic with sweat dripping off her forehead.
They were coming.
She didn't know if they had hounds with them, but if they did, she could only wish to die quickly. The trail of clumsy footsteps and sweat scent she'd left was as easy as eating cake for a dog to follow.
Roslyn had never fallen into the paradise after life trap. She could imagine the nothingness of death. But right now, survival was on her plate. She squeezed her eyes shut and remained motionless.
Agony swallowed her lungs up to the point of surrender, but just then, a branch snapped far off to the right. A badger maybe. Anyhow, this fooled the Krouiers, and their voices could be heard, shouting through the woods as they ran like idiots.
Roslyn's black hair blew and stuck in her her eye, but only when silence came did she attempt to flick it away. Though, as she tried to lift her arm, she realised that she had fit into her hiding place too tightly, and couldn't move a thing.
She squirmed like someone in a nightmare, but the tree held her firmly and it was no use. The exertion and failure made Roslyn feel very queasy all of a sudden, and before she knew it, a rush of blood streamed to her head and pulled her into blackness. Further, into a dangerous sleep.
