Chapter 15
At these words every guard member stopped what they were doing, bowed to king Demetrious, and followed it with an even deeper bow towards Adela before exiting the room. After Frances bid Adela Farwell he looked to Bronislav and gave him a curt nod before leaving. The only living people left in the room were Adela, Bronislav, Demetrious by a thread, Adela's mother Antoinette, and Demetrious' wife Lenore. The 2 bad guys who had run in from the parlor had been taken to the dungeons, and Luke and Austin's bodies still lay in the room. However they were now laying on plastic in the center of the room for easy removal.
Lenore was the first to speak. She got down on her knees beside her husband, the king, whom she had married only to save their lives. The woman who had the opportunity to rein over the vampire world as queen, but turned it down to simply live in the castle and mind the horses gathered her king within her arms and asked him;
"It is finally time to be with our loved ones Demi?"
"Yes my lost Lenore. You know what is to be done?"
"I do dear friend. I'll leave you to your family."
"I'll see you on the other side."
"Give Florence my regards." was the last thing Lenore said before letting go of Demetrious and walking out of the room.
By this time Adela had snaked her arms around Bronislav's mid section and ever so slowly leaked tears onto his black tee shirt. Antoinette was crying beside her husbands lifeless body, punching his already bluish face and cursing every once in a while.
From his half seated position on the floor between his grand four poster bed and an elaborate nightstand; Demetrious looked up at Adela. She bowed her head to him and then turned to her warrior and said,
"I will be with you shortly, save Austin Mooregrove for me." Bronislav gave her a sadistic smile and kissed her on the forehead passionately, running out to lead his men in battle. With his eyes never leaving Adela's face Demetrious gave Adela a solemn look. It was not the time for words she understood that, so she slowly got to her knees beside the king and took his right hand. They both closed their eyes and the king sent her, via telepathy billions of years worth of knowledge about the vampire kingdom. It was a moment normally done in a fancy ceremony for all the land to see, but Adela had just silently taken the oath, and accepted her title as queen of the vampire kingdom. As they sat in silence a warm glow of purple light enveloped them and Adela embraced the feeling of true enlightenment as no one else could until her throne was taken from her. Once the process was complete Adela held the connection for a moment longer, knowing what would happen as soon as she let go.
As Demetrious opened his own eyes he looked into Adela's red and blue ones.
"I will not fail you grandfather."
"I know you won't the fates chose you for a reason and I know you will make an astounding queen. Just end this war, see to it the Trackers never have reason to attack us again."
"I shall do that and more. Until we meet again?"
"Until we meet again dear grand daughter." at these words Adela pulled her hand away from her grandfathers and stood up. As the connection was broken Demetrious stiffened, exhaled his last breath, then closed his eyes and drifted off to the other side. The look on his face was that of peace and satisfaction, so Adela knew he was at rest and he was confident that she would keep the kingdom running under control just as he had for over 2 millennia and the sole ancestor before them who ruled over the vampires of the ancients for only she now knew how long before him.
