During our hardships we are always told to persevere, for there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This light is supposed to bring us peace, happiness. It is supposed to hold resolution for our endurance, make up for the time spent pushing – always pushing. We are told to keep moving forward, even when it feels like our efforts are as useful as applying force to an immovable object. What we are never told is that the light at the end of the tunnel isn't happiness, nor is it peace. The light at the end of the tunnel doesn't relieve all pain, doesn't reward us for pushing and enduring. We are never told this because by the time anyone walks into this light, it is too late. Too late to warn anyone that the light at the end of the tunnel isn't light at all. The light at the end of the tunnel is darkness. The light at the end of the tunnel is death.
