Chapter Two:

* *

"Would you like carry out assistance?" I politely asked an older woman as she struggled to carry her several plastic bags. "Yes please. That's would be lovely," She shot me a quick smile. I kindly piled the many bags into a shopping cart, and we both walked outside to the parking lot. Once again, it was a chilly night in the city. "Thank you, sweetheart. You're a really kind young woman," the older woman said as we finally reached her car. "Goodbye!" I waved as she exited the lot.

As I walked back inside the local grocery store that I work at, I rubbed my hands against my goosebumped arms. I really should've brought a jacket today.

"Hey, Brenna!" I heard someone call behind me. My head snapped behind me to find Rachel running towards me. I've known Rachel ever since I started here at the store. She's had always been by my side, and not to mention she has become one of my best friends. I smiled as she came closer.

"Hey, so are you gonna go to party tonight?" She asked, folding her uniformed apron. I scrunched my face together, what party?

"Sam's having a party at his house. It's his 23rd birthday today. He's invited the whole main building! So what do you say? You wanna come!" She says with a lot of enthusiasm. I don't know... I gave classes tomorrow, I should be studying, reviewing my notes.

"C'mon, it will be a lot of fun!"

"But how am I going to get there? My car is broken, remember?"

"Oh no worries! I can pick you up at your place!" Rachel said with a smile.

I sighed, "Fine, I guess I could g-"

"Yay! I'll see you there!" She said as she scurried off in the other direction, "I'll pick you up at around around 7!"

'Hey babe. I'm going to go see some friends. You wanna come?' I tapped away at my phone before hitting send.

'Sorry, I can't. I have other plans tonight. Love you. -Adam."

Darn it, babe. I really want you to come.

I placed my phone on my nightstand as I made my way to my closet.

Hmm. What should I wear? Is it a dressy party? Or casual one?... I thought to myself. I had been searching for something decent to wear to the party, when something caught my eyes.

A little black dress.

As I slipped the black-snug fabric over my body, I realized how good I looked in it. It had complimented my figure nice, and it looked amazing with my brown wavy hair. I pared off the simple dress with some matching black TOMS and made my way to the bathroom. With a little makeup here, and a little makeup there, I was ready to go.

I gathered up my last minute items and stuffed them into a small clutch, just moments before Rachel knocked on the door.

"Woah, look who's looking sexy tonight!" Rachel said as I exited the front door of my small home. I simply swatted at her arm.

"Rachel," I whined, "So where's Sam's party going to be at?" We both had hopped into her small Camry and headed off to our destination.

"At the steakhouse in the city, he said he invited friends from work and other people are going to be there too." I simply nodded my head.

A few minutes later, we had arrived to the steakhouse. It had been very busy as far as I could see. People lining up at the door.

After finding a legal place to park, we met up with Sam at the front door of the restaurant.

"Rachel! Brenna! Glad you could make it!" Sam smiled widely as he leaned in for a hug.
