Daughtlessly Standing

The girl shouldn't have been tackled but if he said anything he'd not only get crap from the guys but, get yelled at by her. She wanted to be treated like one of the guys; it was one of the reasons she had even tried out for the team. He knew once she had made the team all the guys would do anything to make get quit.
So far nothing they did seemed to work, Samantha was too dedicated to quit. It was one of the things he loved about her. He had always liked her, but never had the courage to say anything. She was intimidating, to say the least.
He knew it was his job to protect her during that game, he never did forgive himself.

(Flashback)

It was the fourth quarter they were down by three if they could get a touchdown they'd win state championships. Samantha wanted nothing more than to score the winning touchdown so the team would finally accept her. She caught the ball and took off running. Chase could hardly keep up. He looked back for as split second; when he turned back around he saw Samantha getting flipped into these air and landing with a loud thump. He rushed to her side. Instantly he ripped into the guy who tackled her.
He then head Sam whisper through the tears "Chase it's fine. I'll be okay." Sam had to be carried off the field in a stretcher. The medical staff decided she needed to go to the hospital to get fully examined.

(Flash back over)

Sam never did play football again. To this day every time Chase looks at his wife he remembers the day he didn't protect her.
