The creatures surged forward, claws tearing up the ground and hisses escaping their deadly teeth. Matt swung his arms up, splitting the one that had spoken to them, in half. The two halves dropped to the ground, charred and smoking. He turned quickly and blasted the bench apart, before facing the army again.
"Use the bench!" He shouted, hoping that the two girls would get the message. Catherine nodded and grabbed two longer pieces, tossing one to Emma. She vanished, appearing behind a creature, and stabbed it in the thigh, bringing it down, before pulling her make-shift weapon out and smashing it down on the things head. She moved again, this time landing on a creatures shoulders. It thrashed and swung its claws, trying to reach her. She yelled and stabbed the sharp end in its eye. It screamed, throwing its head back and almost sending her to the ground. Blood gushed from the wound and several of the surrounding creatures looked over, moving closer to help their fallen comrade. Catherine yelled and threw herself to the ground, disappearing before she hit it, and appearing above the on-rushing creatures, knocking several to the floor. She stood up and glanced over to Matt and Emma. Matt looked like he was doing fine on his own, but Emma was being quickly swamped by the gnashing teeth, her leg already cut and bleeding. Catherine teleported beside Emma and quickly stabbed a creature that had been about to sink it's claws into Emma's already injured leg. It hissed and stumbled backwards, shards of the stick trapped in its chest. It reached up and stuck a finger into the wound, blood running down its arm. Catherine swallowed and threw her weapon at it, hoping for a distraction. The creature caught it and snapped it in half, eyes burning.
"Uh oh" Emma muttered, now struggling to stand up. The creature howled and lunged straight for Catherine, claws out and flashing. Catherine stood, weaponless and stunned, not even moving. She opened her mouth to scream...and the creature burst into flames. It dropped to the ground, screaming in pain, as another blast of red light hit it, this time in the arm. Catherine turned to see Matt with his arms out, aimed at the thing lying on the floor in front of her.
"You alright?" He asked
"Yeah, yeah I'm fine, thank you" she smiled
He nodded and was about to reply, when another of the monsters, this one about five feet taller than the rest, barged its way out the crowd and swung a backhand to Matt's ribs, sending him flying back into a fence and crashing onto the ground. He groaned and rolled onto his back, lifting his head up in time to see it barrelling towards him. It had no claws, but it's arms and legs were thick with muscle, and it's teeth were just as sharp as the rest. It smashed a fist down, aiming for Matt's head. Matt rolled and came up on one knee. He blasted, but was off balance. The red beam missed the creature by miles. It roared and picked up a huge chunk of the broken fence.
"Flee" it growled, and lobbed the fence post like a spear, straight at Matt's stomach. He grunted and leaped into the air, running along the post as it flew, and leaping off the end, raising his knee and bringing it up to the creatures nose. He spun, his foot coming round and driving his heel into its cheek. It bellowed angrily, arms flailing and feet stomping. Matt flew back, skidding across the gravel.
"Come on giant" he taunted "I'm getting bored now"
The monster hissed "if you insist" it started running at Matt, arms pumping at its sides. Matt grinned and ran too, intending to meet the beast halfway. The creature laughed as Matt approached, bringing a fist up from its waist. Matt ducked and jumped into the air, hovering at the same head height as the creature. It took a chance and grabbed for Matt's waist. Matt flew up and behind the creature, kicking it in the back between its shoulder blades. It stumbled and spun round, already swinging a meaty fist. Matt ducked, but was caught in the thigh by a second punch. He spun and fell to the ground, landing on his back and staring up at the bared teeth of the monster. It punched him again, in the stomach, winding him and stopping him from moving. It raised an enormous foot and was about to bring it crashing down on Matt's head, when a voice called out.
"Don't!" The monster turned to source of the noise, lowering its foot, to find one of the other creatures standing before it. "Don't" it repeated, looking up at its brutal cousin.
The giant growled "the children must die, fool! You are not to stop me"
Again, the smaller monster said "don't" it's eyes were glassy, and it seemed slightly limp in its figure. The giant narrowed its eyes, and then widened them suddenly as it realised what was going on.
"Telepath!" It yelled, spinning round. The smaller creature grinned "you know it" its eyes rolled up and it collapsed on the floor, as Catherine appeared on the giants shoulders. It roared and grabbed her foot in one hand, bring her round and dangling her upside down. She flailed and it roared again.
"Foolish girl!" It bellowed "you thought you could bring down me? I am the strongest of the Giants Army, the destroyer of my masters enemies, the-" it didn't finish, because at that point, Matt flew up and drive his first into its chin, knocking its head back. He caught Catherine as the creature dropped her in its surprise, and held one at round her waist, floating on eye level with the creature.
"Yeah, shut up" he raised his other arm, hand out, and a brilliant beam of red light hit the creature square in the face, burning a sizzling hole where it's head should be.
Catherine whistled "pop goes the weasel"
Matt glanced at her "did you just-"
"Yes, I did, deal with it" she grinned "now come on, Emma needs our help"
