A/N: Would just like to say one thing. Enjoy.
He was on his way to the cafeteria when he saw her standing there. There she was. She was standing with her little group of friends, laughing at something one of them said. There was a familiar throbbing in his heart when he saw her laughter reach her eyes, making them twinkle.
There was always a smile on her face-sometimes genuine, and sometimes to cover up the hurt she felt due to something that only he noticed. At those times, her smile never really caught her eyes. But only he picked it up, no one else did. No one else could have possibly loved her that much. You could count the number of times she didn't have a smile playing on her lips-seeing it was very few.
His eyes were fixed on her full lips, carefully watching how they parted while she talked. They looked so inviting, so bitten. He resisted the strong urge to go over and claim her lips, then and there.
His heart and soul ran towards the one thing he always wanted, but his feet remained bolted to the ground. It was the littlest amount of sanity he had left that was holding him back. Oh how difficult it was, only he knew.
It was as if every time he was on the verge of losing what he had left of prudence, the thought of her perfectly happy life being stirred up by it stopped him. He would never do that. He would never purposefully throw her off, confuse her and mess everything up for her.
No, he surely loved her way too earnestly to do something so selfish and insensitive as that.
As fragile as his heart was, she gave him life. She didn't even have to do anything. She would just stand there and laugh like the angel she was and everything was right in the world again. A flick of her mysterious midnight hair, a glint of her eyes, a twitch of her lips were all he ever needed.
He knew she would never be his. He knew it was a far-fetched dream. But there's nothing wrong with fantasizing about about something you profoundly want, even if you can't have it. You know that in actuality it would ever occur, so it couldn't hurt to daydream, could it?
He was well aware of the fact that she never noticed him. He also knew that she never saw him standing there, selfishly taking in her breathtaking beauty with a lustful gaze burning with desire and also one filled with adoration all the same, but that didn't stop him.
Whether she acknowledged his presence or not, he would always be there, because he loved her so.
Because only she was worth it.
Although, no matter how many times he would attempt to drag himself back to reality, he couldn't avoid the slightest bit of optimism in his subconscious telling him that, even though the chance was slim-slim to the point where it's almost non-existent, there was hope for him.
Maybe, just maybe she would open her eyes and not look right through him. Maybe, she'll love him back, the way he did so dearly. Not that he wasn't content with what he already had, but one can sometimes wish for a little more.
But was it ever so unfortunate, that just as if on cue, he showed up, confirming the heart breaking fact that he would have to go on with his 'content' state.
His numb structure helplessly stood in the side lines, watching her already radiant smile get wider as her lover approached her. The feeling was bittersweet.
He shouldn't loathe him as much as he did, only if he could help it. He should be grateful to him for keeping her as happy as she was. But what did make him resent him so much was the fact that it was he who made her happy, when it could've and should've been himself instead.
He tried not to collapse onto the ground-in attempt to avoid creating a scene and gathering unwanted attention-as he watched them mould their lips in a rather passionate interaction, his life being slowly sucked out of him by every passing second.
There was an unbearably agonizing tug at his heart, as they continued the action, while it bled furiously. Nagging him, to let go and allow his already destroyed and drained heart to break, yet again, into infinite pieces, mercilessly sucking his soul out in the process.
He should be broken by now, so broken that nothing could fix him. Why wouldn't he? But surely enough, he wasn't. He would've fallen apart by now if it wasn't for her soul-rejuvenating smile that held him together.
She was happy, with or without him. And as much as that hurt, as much as that tore him apart into bits, it was all the reassurance he needed to go on with what he considered a worthless excuse of a life.
He had no reason to live, nothing to lose, he thought at times, thinking about the parents he lost to a car accident not many months ago, just on the eve of his 17th birthday. But every time his dull eyes found her bright, happy blue ones, all that morbid thought went out the window. All reason went away and he would only stop and stare.
He faintly recognised a distant voice as his friend's, who was calling for him. Maybe not, but he was too involved in something far more important to give it a second thought.
He had unspeakable difficulty trying to tear his gaze away from the angel in disguise in front of him, as he attempted to follow his friend's voice.
As he rather reluctantly began to walk away, carrying the heavy burden with him that was his heart, filled with unrequited feelings, he thought to himself for one time:
Even if you don't know me, or even have the slightest idea of my existence, it doesn't matter. It never will, because I will always love you.
Always.
And with that, he left.
