The green trees of summer waved in the wind.
It truly was a beautiful happy day.

Me and Cliff had gone exploring in the back yard.

There was a large garden forest in the back of our new house,
so we decided to check it out.

Pretty soon we were lost.
I had found a beautiful butterfly.

It's wings were a bright blue with specks of pink.
I decided to keep the rare creature for myself.

Behind me, Cliff was hitting trees with sticks, clearly bored.
"C'mon, Samantha. Let's do something." He mouthed.

"I'm busy." I signed playing with the fluttery winged insect.

"Playing with some dumb butterfly. If we're not gonna do anything here, let's just head back to the house." He signed.

"Oh shut up already!" I said.

Yes, I could speak.
Just because I was deaf did not mean I was incapable of speaking.
I just didn't know how I sounded.

"Don't you have a dinner party?" He signed.
I looked up, frantically.

I forgot I was having dinner with my new family.
I ran off, Cliff close behind.

The butterfly got away.
