Burr looked around at the desolate marshy surroundings of Weehawken. Was this duel a mistake? Across from him, Alexander Hamilton stood still, holding a pistol. He looked calm and collected. Burr tried to mimic him, hiding his emotions as well, but he could feel himself shake.

They took their paces and turned around, facing each other. Burr's eyes flashed as he recounted every time that Hamilton had opposed him, every single thing that he and Hamilton had disagreed on. Then, he thought back to his most recent losses- The election for president and governor. Hamilton had thrown his support behind Jefferson in the presidential election and Burr had been stuck as Vice President.

Burr took all his pent up anger and aggression, just as he had done the night he challenged Hamilton to the duel, and fired his pistol as Hamilton fired into the air? The bullet hit Hamilton between his ribs, and he fell in the same spot his son had died years back.

Burr felt a sting of remorse as he saw the man fall, but shook it off. He had enough to worry about without feeling sorry for his political enemy. He strided away, leaving everyone behind him.
