I sit on the sofa, watching Isabella and Amelia asleep in their bassinets that we keep downstairs. My mind keeps wondering over to my sister, how the appointments going, whether she's come out with the results, what the results are. Will she come out happy or will she come out broken? I think the thought of the possibility of her not being able to have children is bad enough for her, but being told by a doctor she can't, I think that would finish her. It would all become reality and I'd hate that for her. All I want is for my sister to have a chance at happiness.

Suddenly, there's a cry from one of the bassinets, pulling me from thoughts. I quickly stand up to see which one of my daughters is crying. Amelia is sound asleep but Isabella is screaming the place down. I pick her up gently, shushing her and rocking her quickly so not to wake her sister up.

"Hey, hey, shh, it's okay mama has you, it's okay" I whisper to her over her persistent wailing

She continues wailing, the noise making my ears buzz as I continue to rock her.

"Shh, you're going to wake your sister if you scream any louder!" I whisper as she continues

I see her place a finger in her mouth and I know what's wrong, she's teething.

"Oh hunnie, shh, I know, I know. Let mama fix it" I coo

I take her into the kitchen; her wails making me want to cry now. I fill a cup with ice cold water and dip my finger into it, the coldness sending a chill down my spine as I place my finger in her mouth as she bites down on it gently; her cries now muffled moans of relief.

After a while, I remove my finger from her mouth, magicking up the teething ring I bought before the girls were born and freezing it over and placing it in her mouth for her to bite on. She lays her head carefully on my shoulder as I rock her gently, humming the lullaby I sing to the girls when they won't go to sleep.

A loud knocking on the front door grabs my attention. I stand up from the stool I'm sat on and walk into the hallway and open the door cautiously.
