Damn! Damn! Damn! Damn! DAMN! I thought as I sprinted through the empty school grounds, the large classroom blocks surrounding the path and making me twist and turn to reach my form class. Just this once, JUST THIS ONCE! I wanted to be early. I had told myself this morning, I WOULD NOT be late again! But yet, look at what happened! I AM LATE! And all because of that weird man. He was probably just some stupid teenager wagging school or something…

I shook my head and slowed to a jog as my block came into sight. Hoisting my bag further onto my shoulders, I tried to slow my breathing and calm myself down before I entered the classroom. I opened the door and gave a ‘sorry’ face, lifting my hands up to each side of my head and giving a guilty smile to my frowning teacher. Mrs Jerzyna (Yet-zeena) wasn’t that bad, she was a pretty cool teacher, but I guess anyone would get annoyed with me, the student who is ALWAYS late for EVERYTHING. “Elvira, late again I see” Mrs Jerzyna tutted as she marked my name off the roll. “Oh, um, sorry Mrs Jerzyna, I, um, it was my Dad’s birthday,” I lied instantly. My teacher raised an eyebrow, “your Father’s birthday was it? But, didn’t you say that last week?” I felt my face go slightly red as I tried to come up with a quick excuse for my Dad’s multiple birthdays. Mrs Jerzyna sighed, “Go sit down Elvira.” I gave her another guilty grin, then speed walked towards the back of the room, where my 6 best friends in the world sat.

They all gave me sly smirks and I gave them a slightly slanted smile in return. These guys were the reason I still came to school every day. Ever since grade 8, we had made sure that we were in the same classes and sat together every lunchbreak. There’s Jillian, she’s part Asian, with dark brown hair reaching just past her shoulders. Her exotic features made it look like she was wearing make-up constantly, giving her naturally stunning, dark brown eyes. She’s friendly and upbeat, with an amazing singing voice and a great sense of humour. Then there’s Anne. She’s quite tall, not as tall as me though, with long, reddish-blonde hair, a fringe and a constant grin. She’s a complete music nerd and quite hyper. She’s great with film editing and wants to become a photographer. Then, Raymonde. At first she seems quite shy with her petite body and pretty face, but then you really get to know her. She’s funny, excitable, smart and definitely not at all shy. She has dirty-blonde hair that falls all the way down her back and light brown eyes. There is also Vivian. She is a New Zealander with Indian heritage. She’s quite quiet, but has these sort of weird outbursts where she shows her ‘other side’. Her extremely dark brown hair, almost black, reaches down midway her back. She has dark olive skin and dark features, showing of her heritage. Then there’s Grace. She’s a strong-willed, multicultural, technology nut with a don’t-mess-with me attitude. She has short brown, wavy hair that frames her face down to her chin and brown, triangular eyes. She goes almost everywhere with her laptop and is in a massive choir, so is always singing random songs from different countries under her breath. And finally, there’s Marie. Marie has long, brown hair and a side fringe, with dark brown eyes and a friendly smile. She’s intelligent and very much British in the way she acts and talks, even though she’s Australian.
