My name is Freya O'Donnell, I'm from East end. For those of you who don't know where that is, it's up north, next to Canada. Where I was raised there was this big wall surrounding our whole town. You could leave and enter as you pleased of course.
But here in our school they didn't just teach us the basics. They taught us how to survive on our own. They taught us how to fight.
So don't be fooled by my small body. I could easily take you down. But the sad thing was that people around me were always dying. Some got sick because of the radiation in the air. Some went out to gather supplies, but they just never came back.
You see the radiation has been here since the Great War Magi. They dropped bombs everywhere, killing millions of people. Some people where sent to the space station. There they would repopulate and come back to earth once the radiation had gone away.
Or so I was told, it's been one hundred years since they've been on this planet. But for people like us that could with stand the radiation, we live on earth.
My great grandparents were the ones that survived the radiation. But from there my grandma was born. And the story continues, I'm pretty sure that you don't want to know about how I was made. But when I was born, I was given a special necklace. It was a necklace of half a moon. They never told me the back story. They just said that one day I was just wearing it.
But do you remember how I told you that everyone around me always died, well one of them was my dad. There were people from the outside wall that wanted supplies. But in that time we were very low on them. But my dad tried to tell them that, but they thought that he was lying. So they put an arrow through his heart. A war broke out through the clans. They had a peace treaty between every clan. But once a clan broke it they would no longer belong to the 13 clans.
Each clan has a leader, or a commander. Which ever they prefer to be called.
There are people around us that wear hazmat suits. Those people can't breathe the same air that we do. If they did, they would die instantly from the radiation. Those people come from the May flower state.
They've given us special names too. They call us the grounders, the people with special lungs. They call us many things, we fight to survive. While all they do to survive is stand there and look pretty.
I'm pretty sure that non of them have ever fought, made a fire by hand, or even gone out hunting.
Their civilization is made up of morals and laws. They have curfews and school to attend. While we have to protect the wall and make sure that no uninvited guest come in. We hunt the food that we eat. We were taught to never let our guard down.
The only way to survive is to battle it out. Love is not an option for us, we can't just settle down and get married. We have people that we have to worry about. We might still be young but we were raised to be warriors.
My mother used to be known as Wanheda, the commander of death. That name followed her on for her whole life. Everywhere that she went people always died. But that name was taken away and placed on me.
People whisper through the streets. Making up new rumors about me. They say that just my touch can take down strongest. I've killed, but for hunting reasons.
They say that I killed my father by kissing his cheek the night that the archer shot at him. My touch can be deadly. But how can I do so much damage without even doing anything?
But don't always believe what you hear. These people are filled of folk tales. I mean our town elders can barely keep themselves composed.
I'll leave with this thought, if I'm Wanheda does that mean that you're going to die? Because I'm starting to take a liking to you. You seem pretty nice, but let's not get carried away.
Freya out.
