The oldest and most intelligent of us, Tristan, was the second to notice but the first to react.

I remember the week he had followed her around school. Apparently, he needed to find a reason for her new attitude.

Abbigaile, observant and not as ditzy as my team members assumed every pretty girl to be, caught on fast. Being an inexperienced freshman didn't hinder her in avoiding Tristan, though.

I was thoroughly impressed with her; imagine my surprise when the clumsy and confident senior approached me in our speech class and announced her as missing!

Thirty minutes later, and she was already seated at our usual lunch table.

Our dogged, determined Tristan gave up his detective work after a week and three days.

When Abbigaile recognized her victory, she smiled.Yet it didn't light up her face like it always did. It wasn't the smile that had my cheeks flushing and heart pounding.
