"Hello?" The woman's groggy voice was like music to his ears.

"Hi baby, it's me." His deep voice caught in his throat as he replied.

"Kevin? Is everything all right?" Ellena reached for her alarm clock and turned it to face her. "It's one a.m., Kevin, what's wrong?"

He smiled into the darkness. It was so like her to assume the worst. "I'm sick." He stated. He heard the rustle of her bedding as she sat up. "How sick? Do you have a fever?"

"No."

"Did you catch a cold?"

"No."

"Well, what's wrong then?"

"I don't know." Kevin moaned. "I just feel so lonely in this bed without you."

There was silence on the other end of the line. Kevin was certain she was smiling now too. "I can't wait to see you."

"Oh, I miss you too honey. Only two more days. Lacey has been crossing the days off her calendar. She was very excited when you told you that she would be able to go horse back riding when we come to visit you."

Kevin laughed as he thought of the little girl with a cherubic face and thick blonde curls. "How is my other baby?"

Ellena unconsciously moved her free hand over her abdomen and sighed. "Fine, the baby is fine."

"And how about you? Are you okay?" He questioned.

"Yes, Kevin, I am fine too. I actually managed to keep my breakfast down yesterday."

"And today?"

"No such luck." She replied with a giggle.

"Still tired all the time?"

"Very." She nodded, even though he couldn't see her. Kevin suddenly felt a pang of guilt for waking her.

"I'll let you go back to sleep honey. I just wanted to hear your voice."

"No, Kevin don't hang up. I'm awake now. Tell me about the video? How are the guys?"

One of the things that Kevin loved about his wife was that she was always genuinely interested in what he did. He told her all about Connor and the video shoot. He told her about the ranch house, and the yard and how beautiful they both were. He also told her about meeting Kerynn and how he worried that a romance between her and Howie might have disastrous results. They talked until he heard Ellena begin to nod off. He then whispered his good-byes and I-love-yous and hung up. Soon, he sighed to himself. Soon she and Lacey would be there and his family would be together.

Kevin got out of bed and pulled a T-shirt over his bare chest. Without bothering to turn on a light, he trod down the hallway to the bathroom.

Kerynn shivered in the darkness as she closed the door behind her and walked up the stairs. The moonlight spilled into the hall from the window at the top. With her bare feet, she moved stealthily down the hall past the bathroom. She stopped for a brief moment, thinking she had heard something, then chastised herself for her over active imagination. She sneaked around the corner and ran, face-first into something quite solid that she never remembered being there before. A deep voice started to holler, "What the-!"

Kevin turned the corner to the bathroom and something hit him square in the chest. Startled, he began to yell, but before he got more than two words out, he felt a small hand cover his mouth.
