It swerved and took out my left headlight. The truck rammed right into a ditch flipping once...twice...three times causing the roof to get smashed in. I sat in my seat with trembling hands. Shock overtook my body and left me sitting there bug-eyed and helpless. After processing what just happened I pushed opened my car door and crouched next to the driver's side and searched for blood or a live person calling for help.
Tears filled my eyes when they lied upon an unconscious boy. I used all of my might and opened the door. I tried to slip him out by pulling him by his arms.
After successfully dragging him to safety, I checked for pulse. I looked up to the sky and thanked God once I found a steady one. I ran back to the green truck and looked for anyone else. I didn't see anybody so I pulled out my cell phone and dialed 911. I informed them what happened and waited patiently by the boy, praying that he would be okay.
The ambulance arrived quickly and carried him away. A police officer stayed by to investigate.
"Hi, I'm officer Puckett. Can you tell me exactly what happened?" His glittering blue eyes were stern and melted my bones. The memory of the wreck washed over. I put my hands on my knees and choked back tears.
"I was reading a text from my boyfriend and I-I looked up and his truck was racing towards me. I was on the wrong side of the road and he tried to swerve, but he, he, uh, rolled three times I think and he, I pulled out to help him and, I-"
"Called 911?" I nodded. "You know that you can get in serious trouble for texting and driving, right?" I nodded again and let the tears escape from my eyes. They were warm and dripped to the corners of my mouth. I never wanted this to happen. I was so caught up in my thoughts that I never thought about who could've gotten hurt. Officer Puckett patted my back and I held my head up so I could look in his eyes. His eyebrows furrowed and he put his hands on his hips. "Don't do it again. I'll let you slide on this one because I can tell you never meant to hurt anyone," I let out a breath of relief, "But if you get caught again, there will be no mercy. Got it?" I nodded and stood up straight. I used my thumbs to wipe the tears from underneath my eyes and used my other four fingers to wipe away the tears smeared on my cheeks. Officer Puckett gave me one last glance then walked away.
I checked my phone and saw that I had 7 missed calls and 12 texts from Chris.

I shook my head and put my phone in my pocket. I couldn't deal with this. Not after what happened. I'll explain tomorrow because there was no way I was going to school today. I got into my car and drove back to my house, wondering what the hell I was going to tell my sister.
