.Blood splattered on my cheek as I watched the vampire's head hit the ground. "Got this one covered!" I hollered to Adelaine, who was attempting to reach the neck of a bloodsucker with the blade of her machete.
"I'm okay." She said before successfully chopping off the head of her own vamp, a smirk spreading on one side of her pale face. She bent over, breathing heavily. "Well, that was fun."
I watched as she tossed the machete into the air, catching it after it ricocheted off the high ceiling of the vampire's nest.
"Smooth. You almost killed yourself." I said to her with a smug expression plastered on my face.
She shrugged, "Hey, at least I'd go down swinging."
"Swinging into a hospital room." I retorted after laughing.
Rolling her eyes while smiling, she bumped my arm slightly as she walked by. "Let's get to the car," she said cheerfully, "Another job finished."
"Well Laine, If by 'job' you mean saving humanity again with no pay, then yeah. Another job finished." I smiled, gazing at the graffiti covered walls as we walked by.
Adelaine laughed while wiping the blood off of her machete with her palm.
"Two vamps saving humanity...We sound like the start of a bad joke." I teased.
"Well, it could be worse!" She claimed pointing a finger at me.
I made a face at her as I pushed the front door open and walked into the sun, "Really? How?"
She raised her left hand and started wiggling her fingers, especially the blue ring on her middle finger, "We wouldn't have these fancy magic rings. Now tell me you're glad I got these for us."
My eyes glanced down at the similar one I had on my hand. Laine got them from a witch she knew from a while ago. They're meant to help keep the bloodlust down, not much, but some.
"This tastes disgusting." I complained while attempting to wipe the vamp blood from the corner of my mouth. "Nowhere near as good as human."
"I know, Frankie, but you're gonna have to deal with it until we can get a hold on some animal blood. We promised not to drink human anymore, remember?" Adelaine said, and I knew it was true.
"Okay, but as long as I get something to drink other than this. No wonder why vamps don't feed off each other! This tastes like garbage!" I admitted.
The strong wind caused Laine's blonde hair to whip behind her, hitting me in the face. She noticed and laughed.
"Hey, this is not funny! Maybe I should make you eat my hair!" I said with a smile spread across my face and a strand of my dark brown, curly hair in my hand.
We laughed together and hopped into our car, ready to find our next mission, and go on another adventure.
I turned on the car and started to drive out of the abandoned parking lot we were in.
"I bet your hair would taste delicious." Adelaine joked and I chuckled.
"I bet it does." I laughed with her and drove down the dirt road we rode to get here.
