Chapter 4 ~ TOM ~ Us Against the World
I am proud to say that for most of my “play fights” with Bill, we haven’t technically injured anyone but ourselves. Technically. Not counting the idle guard napping outside our door. Or the maids next room. Or our butler, if he makes it through the door safely… sometimes. It wasn’t really serious, I mean what is broken bones? They can heal. Well not instantly like me. My healing rate is ten times faster than a normal person. And Bill, he has a frail body but you cannot really injure Bill. The only time he had injured himself was when the whole roof came crashing down on him. But otherwise he is usually unscathed. Magicians… Pfft! With all those powers and spells that came along with it, I mean you have to memorize an entire paragraph just to control your power? Who does that in a real fight?
The moment when the doctors and ministers realize that behind Bill’s weak body are the unused powers overflowing from him, they wasted no time in training him under the Magician’s Guild. The Kaulitz line of kings had always been warriors like me, there were magicians but only a few had ever made it to the throne. And Bill was an exception. He was by far the strongest they have seen. Just two days into the training and he blew up an entire dome within the Magician’s Guild. He took out five grand masters and twenty magicians. It was only when I stepped in and directed his powers somewhere else that everything calmed down. Those violet-eyed bastards looked at me like I’m some kind of a hero while they treated Bill like a monster. It took years for him to control his power. And once in a while, we had this “play fights” to help drain off the excess powers.
But I was kind of worried. The butler hadn’t been back after delivering our breakfast. Poor fucker must be hiding somewhere under the bed. In just under an hour we had managed to blow up the newly installed stained glass windows. Tore down the walls and converted the furniture into recyclable materials. Bill shielded off his room and the piano. The idiot deliberately didn’t shield my room. I almost cried when my entire library of Mini Skirts Invasion series turned to dust.
“You can come out if you like but you had to be quicker than that.” Bill crooned. I can feel his presence somewhere near but the bastard has learned a few tricks over the years. He has learned to hide his presence from me.
Two broken ribs and a bleeding head. Not bad, Bill. I lunged sideways, knowing that he will be there. If I could reach him before he has his shield up, I could finish this quickly without any more injuries. I took him by surprise. I had him in a headlock. “It's over Bill. You lose.” I said as I raised my sword to his throat.
“Nothing is over until one of us is on the floor.” Bill said, struggling through my grip.
“What? Fuck Bill just give up already!” I said. “You cannot defeat me with strength. Hey, are you listening to me?”
“Night howls and the dark sings… Blood fangs, shadows bring, Honor thy contract with me…”
It doesn’t take a genius to recognize a strong dark spell. But these spells are usually long. A drawback for magicians in a close combat fight. But Bill was already at the end of the spell, which means he had already cast half of it sometime during our fight. Sneaky bastard! There was no time to counterattack it. I did what every warrior was supposed to do when faced with a strong magician with a penchant for dark familiars. I ran. Bravely.
“Come forth… Hollenhund!”
(Hollenhund – Hell hound)
Fuck it. He. Didn’t. Just. Set. Lose. A. Hell fucking hound.
There was something amazing when Bill is summoning a familiar (Familiars are creatures that enter into a contract with a magician.). I mean who wouldn’t think it’s cool when the floor lights up with this circle and crazy symbols. Then the creatures rose up from the ground like a freaking RPG. But I got no time to admire my brother’s magic skills. I should be running… running hard.
