Peter sits at the table now. I look at the clock. We near midnight. I have a drink in front of me and so does Peter. He isn't leagally allowed but I am, technically. Peter continuously sips his drink. He has stopped wincing at the hard liquer. Or did he ever? I forgot.
"Who told you to wait?" He asks. "To do anything I mean."
"Ricky. She told me not to interfere too much. Not till someone had died." I say. He loks surprised.
"Who died?" He asks. I forgot he wasn't there.
"Catalina." I say. He hangs his head. He looks up and raises his glass.
"To her life." He says. I hold mine up.
"To avenging her death." I say. We tap glasses and finish off what's left of our drinks. I hear a knock on the door. I rise to my feet and aim my large gun towards Peter. "Who did you tell!?" I ask. He is frightened by the large weapon.
"No one! They probably followed the tracker!" He says.
"What tracker!?" I scream. Another knock.
"It was right here! On the side of my neck!" He yells pointing to the bleeding I noticed earlier. "I cut out before I found you. They are probably just sweeping the area."
"So they knock on the inside of a closet wall?" I say. The door opens. I raise my weapon the now open door way. Dan walks in. I keep he gun towards him. He looks at me with shock. I forgot I wasn't wearing the bandana.
"Grant." He says. "How are you here?" I walk behind him and close the door.
"How do I know I can trust you?" I ask. He moves deeper into the room. I keep my aim on him.
"Trust me with what?" He asks.
"That you won't inform Andrew." I say.
"Are you here to stop him?" He asks.
"Indefinitely." I say.
"Then count me in. He needs to be stopped. We saw that before you left." He say. I lower my weapon. It goes back to the bat.
"How did you find this place?" I ask.
"I followed his tracker. It was transmitting fairly close." He tells me. I grab my bag.
"We're leaving. Now." I say. Peter stands and we leave.
I cover my face again. The crisp air stings my lungs. We walk on the streets, not using powers to keep eyes away from us. The government has cracked down on people using their powers. It's just like when I first discovered my powers. All Metas in hiding. Hunted like animal. I don't blame them for the choice to keep all citizens safe. I just hope for a more equal world after all of this goes down. If it goes the way I hope. Dan grabs my shoulder. I stop in the middle of the side walk.
"Its Paul." He whispers in my ear.
I see Andrews personal lap dog across the street. I hold my bat. It shifts into the gun. Several people scream. Paul looks. I shoot the gun. He disappears. I turn to Dan.
"We have to go!" I yell.
In seconds, he is the dragon holding me and Peter in the air. We I pull him out of the city, towards my home town. Peter reaches next to Dan's neck and cuts out his tracker. Dan grunts in pain as the large beast. We land on the drive as of my childhood home. It still hasn't been sold.
I kick the door open and walk into the house. I smile a painful smile. I can imagine my mother runnin up to me and hugging me. She never got to see what I did with my life. She was so alone.
"Is this out new hiding spot?" Peter asks.
"For now. Until I find something better." I say. I place my bag on the ground.
"What's in that thing?" He asks.
"Relects of a destroyed future." I say, pulling out machete. I hand it to Peter. He looks dumb founded.
"What do I do with it?" He asks.
"Well, one, use it to slash. But, press right there." I say and press it for him, showing a shield around the blade. He smiles.
"That's awesome." He says, mesmerized by the weapon. I hand him the holder. I walk over to Dan and we walk to the other room. He closes the door.
"Where did you go?" He asks me. I hesitate.
"I went to the future. I was warned of what was to come and I came back to stop it from happening." I say. He looks shocked.
"How?" He barely says.
"The black holes travel through time and space." I say. "But I swore, after I come back I won't interfer with time again."
He sits, leaning on the wall. I sit next to him.
"Who sent you back?" He asks.
"Ricky, Mark, Nadia and Clark." I say.
He looks at me. I knows what I will say next but I know he doesn't want to hear it. Tears reach my eyes and his. I don't let them fall.
"Where was Peter?" He asks. I laugh.
"He retired. He had a family. He lives with you." I say. He smiles. He hugs me.
"Thank you." He says to me. He stands and walks out.
I stay planted on the floor, my feet slide out across the carpet. I start to cry. Time is a ticking time bomb with many rules on how to use it safely. There is one big rule in time travel. Never tell someone when they die.
