"Michael, please smile." His father said fixing the boys bowtie.

"I am smiling..." The fifteen year old deadpanned to his father. His blank expression said it all, he didn't care about anything, he could care less about his father getting married in a few short hours, could care less about his new step brother and mother. There wasn't much for him to try and care about in his eyes. Michael had nothing, or acted like it.

"I- Yes you are son... Yes you are..." His father sighed, his bright smiled faded to a weak one that held sympathy for his son. "Mike, I know you're mad at me, but can you please act like everything is okay, just for today? You can go back to hating me and only caring about hot fictional guys tomorrow, just for one day, act like nothing is wrong."

"I'm going to only care about hot fictional guys no matter what, you should know better." Michael laughed. Actually laughed. His father's eyes widened in amazement, he hadn't seen his son laugh in a long time.

"You're right, I should know better. Can you do the other for me?"

"Yeah, but first chance I get, I'm going back to being mad at you." Michael said giving his dad a hug.

"You might not do that after you see some of Luke's friends." Michael's father laughed as his soon to be step son walked into the room.

"Come on short stuff, we have to go greet people." Luke said pushing the younger boy out of the room.

"Asshole." Michael muttered under his breath. He walked slowly down the hall behind Luke taking in his last few moments of being an anger and annoyance filled self before he needed to act like everything was perfectly fine.

"Calum, Ashton you guys made it." Michael heard Luke say from in front of him. He was about to look up when he ran into someone catching himself before he fell to the ground. "Fuck Michael, watch where you're going." Luke snapped at him. Michael glared at him for a moment before looking up at what he ran into.

"Who's this Luke?" The boy with black hair asked. Michael swore that he was Asian but knew better that to just assume that.

"This is my soon to be step brother Michael. Michael this is Calum and Ashton my best friends." Luke said rolling his eyes.

"What a little cutie. Don't worry kid, if old Lukie is being a jerk to you, I'll put him in his place for you. You can count on that." Calum the boy with dark hair grinned at him.

"I- Thanks." Michael said. He looked at the Ashton kid who he had ran into expecting him to say something. He only walked past Michael bumping shoulders with him as he did.

"He seems... Nice?" Michael questioned rolling his eyes.

"He can be. Don't worry about Ashton." Calum said before he was dragged off by Luke. Michael gave that a questioning look knowing that there was something there, he was sure of it.

Another thing that Michael was sure of; that Ashton was one hot guy.
