Julie and Chace were sitting around the round, antique, wooden table, on chairs that were so old they threatened to collapse with every movement the pair made. They sat, staring into each others eyes, transfixed, intrigued, for what felt like an hour. Chace had cooked a microwave curry for them both but neither had touched any of their food.
After Julie had looked around the den, she and Chace had gone upstairs into the dining room. Chace had went into the kitchen to put on the food for them whilst, at the same time he had franticly pressed digits into the single landline phone that he had taken from the receiver in the living room to take into the kitchen.
The women who had picked up on the other end of the phone was Chace's girlfriend and best friend. She was the only person who had ever accepted him for who he truly was and, where as any other person would have run a mile when Chace told them about the bloodsuckers, she had believed him and since they had met three years earlier, she had become his sidekick in kicking bloodsucking ass (or at least what was in place of an ass).
_ _ three years earlier _ _
Chace ran, ran and kept running. He didn't dare look back. Someone was chasing Chace. Something was chasing him. He kept running and didn't stop. He turned round a corner almost smashing into a dumpster but just managing to keep his footing and dodge it.
He ran round the corner and ran on for about a meter before tripping over a bin bag that had been left on the floor. On the floor and in a seemingly hopeless situation, Chace turned, lay on his back, axe in one hand, photo of his parents in the other, and he prayed to every god he could name. Time dragged on for what seemed forever.
With his eyes still closed, Chace moved sideways into a shop front that couldn't be seen from the alley way. Chace hadn't moved though, he had been lying still one second, and felt a hand grab him the next. Just as he was dragged into the shop front, something sped passed where he was. He had done it. He had survived. He couldn't move, he couldn't open his eyes. One minute he was straining to try and open his eyes, the next he was in a heavenly mixture of relaxation and relief.
