"Good morning, Stevie"
"Good morning, little bunny. Did you get enough sleep yesterday?"
"Enough sleep?" I said in a sarcastic tone "No, Sir. I'm like an owl, I never sleep at night."
He looked a little angry but he held it in as fast as possible.
"Here eat your breakfast." He said putting a plate of an egg and bread and a cup of coffee.
I felt a strange feeling, warmth perhaps.
"Where are your kids?" I said with a full mouth when I noticed his eyes watering and his hand shaking.
"My daughter is dead and my son has left me here, he sends me money each month and a letter of three words; 'Take care, Mr. Gold'"
He finished his words and travelled with his thoughts, away, so far away.
We finished eating and then he asked me if I could stay the day with him and I accepted his offer because if I stay in that house alone I might get possessed or something.
I walked around the cottage as the man was reading the newspaper, there were no pictures of his children, none, only pictures of dogs, birds and the stars. I went to sit next to him on the floor when he asked me. "What brought a young lady like you here alone?"
I didn't help but say "I made some terrible decisions in the past 2 years and couldn't bear the consequences so they brought me here so I can relax as they say."
"You know, I see myself in you young lady."
"No trust me you don't want to. I'm a horrible person."
"Okay now you're speaking nonsense
; no one is a horrible. No one shall ever be judged according to their past. Your present is what defines you, your mistakes are what made you the "you' you are now so just go and come tomorrow." And I left without saying any word, I was surprised to see someone have faith in me. I was afraid; I was afraid of letting him down just like I always did to whoever came near me.
