She paused looking at her surroundings wondering what was she doing here? Where was here? She pursed her lips at the thought of these questions. All while taking in the lush green grass, bluebells and tall trees surrounding her.
Walking forward she listened to see if she could hear anything that would help her to discover the things that she pondered over.
She let out a gasp and sharply inhaled as she reached a clear pond and looked at her reflection, she couldn’t remember looking like this, in fact she couldn’t remember anything really, except that she was different, far different than anyone else.
She had never been normal from what she could remember, always odd and never wanted by anyone.
What was different about her... well that was another thing altogether, she was a mutant of sorts. Able to control the element fire, she had been able to for as long as she could remember which wasn’t very far back. What she could remember about the past was fuzzy, mainly just voices as though she hadn’t seen very much, although that couldn’t be right she thought I am 14 after all.
With a fluid motion she leaped over the small pond and continued, just walking forward hoping she could find somewhere that she could rest without worrying about wild animals and other scarier things that would be in the forest with her.
About an hour later she saw what looked to be like the trees thinning out in front of her, she gasped at the sight and started walking even more determined than she had been at the start. Hoping, wishing that there would be somewhere safe for her to go.
Nearing the edge of the trees she froze stunned at the city that stood in front of her, the look and noise of it overwhelming her. It doesn’t look like 1940 anymore she thought to herself, not at all.
She walked up to one of the houses cautiously, she reached out when she got to the door and pounded on it with her small fist, hoping someone was in.
Just as the door was opening though she began to feel faint, as the woman at the door watched she fell to the ground. The woman gasped
“Tobias!” she called “Come help me a girl has just fainted at the door!”
Footsteps pounded as Toby ran down to help his mother with the young girl. They managed to lift her into their living room and lay her on the sofa.
Tobias’ mother laid her hand on the girls forehead as a method to check her temperature, sighing slightly as she realized that the girl was running a higher temperature than any normal person should.
“Tobias, go fetch some wet towels” she commanded her son.
A few minutes later Tobias entered the room again, handing the towels over to his mother he asked “who do you think she is?”
“I have no idea, another question is where did she come from?” She pondered over this whilst putting the towels on the girls head “she looks about your age though Tobias…14”
Tobias nodded noticing that her features looked about as developed as the other girls his age. Observing the girl closer he noticed that she was wearing a dirty, shredded night gown that looked very old-fashioned, her feet were caked in mud and there were smudges of dirt and small cuts all over her legs, arms and face.
“It looks like she’s come through the forest, but what would she have been doing in there?” He pondered aloud glancing out the window at the forest as he spoke.
“We may never know Tobias” his mother answered shaking her head, “we may never know”
