" Well, would you like to join ThunderClan?" Bluestar asked. Rusty hesitated 'Am I willing to give up my whole life?' "No. I'm sorry, but I can't." Rusty said. "Oh, well, if you change your mind, you know where to find us..." Rusty padded out of the forest and back to his fence. Smudge was waiting for him. " Hey, you're back!" he cried. They stayed and talked for a while, but darkness had fallen. " Gotta go. See 'ya Smudge!" Rusty meowed. But when he walked through his flap, a new smell was there. ' Who's that? It smells like a..... cat.' he thought. As he walked up to the couch, he spotted a pile of tortiseshell fur n his spot! " Hey! That's my spo-" He stopped as the cat turned around.  She had a beautiful dappled coat and loving green eyes. " Hello. I'm Butterschotch! What's you're name?" she meowed. " I-i'm Rusty." he stuttered. Her gaze made him feel like he was on a cloud. " I'm your new housemate. I hope we can be friends." Butterschotch said. " W-would you l-like to take a wa-alk with m-me?" Rusty asked.  She purred, "Of course. You know, you're very sweet for being so kind to me, since I'm new. Are there any other housecats around here?" she asked. "Oh yeah. There's Smudge. He's black and white with yellow eyes. You'll like him." Rusty meowed. " I think I'll like you more than anyone I'll ever meet." she purred sweetly. They padded outside, their fur brushing softly. " Hey! Rusty! Who's that?" Smudge asked. " This is Butterschotch. She's my new housemate." Butterschotch  was presses against Rusty. " Hello. I hope we can be friends." she said. " Sure, but I've got to go. My housefolk are calling me. Bye Butterschotch. Bye Rusty." He winked at him as he went back inside. " Want to play?" Butterschotch asked. " Sure!" Rusty meowed. They played like that until they fell asleep under the stars.

As time went on, Rusty grew more handsome. Butterschotch also grew even more admiring. They had grown closer and closer. It was a sunny day, with birds singing and sun shining. " Hey, Butterschotch. Can I talk to you?" Rusty asked. His tail twitched nervously. Butterschotch and Rusty padded outside, under the lilac bush. " What is it, Rusty?" she asked. ' He's been acting strange lately. It's like he has a secret. But I have a secret, too...' she thought. " Butterschotch, I... Whenever you're around, I feel all funny. It's like a warm, soft glow, rising up deep inside me until I can barely breath. So, I wanted to ask you a question. Will you.... umm... Never mind. You'd only laugh." he said. Butterschotch pressed against him softly. " Actually, I wanted to ask you something, too. Rusty, when I'm with you, I feel as soft as a feather and fast as the wind. I've never felt like that with any other cat but you." she said. Rusty picked a flower from the bush and gave it to Butterschotch. " Will you be my mate?" Rusty asked. " Of course!" she cried.

Many moons later, there was a new litter of kits in the house. 3 kits had been born. Two toms and a she-cat." What should we name the she-cat." Rusty asked. She was the only kit with a firey coat, but was fluffier than Rusty. Her brothers are tortiseshelle with a bit of orange. " How about...Paprika?" Butterschotch asked. " Perfect. What about the tom kit with the flash of orange on his nose?" Rusty asked. " How about...Caramel?" she asked. " Great! But what about the last tom kit, with his fur tinged with gray?" Rusty wondered " Dusty!"they meowed in unison. What could have been....
