The sky looked so pretty today. So very, very beautiful. The different shades of grey mixing together promised a torrent of rain later and nothing was more beautiful than the splintering little droplets of water coating everything in a dreamlike state. After the rain left, there was always that little cloud of mist hanging over everything and that oh so lovely smell of greasewood. Oh how I miss the smell of greasewoods. I must have spaced out because soon I had a pair of fingers snapping in front of my face. I looked towards the source of my interruption.
"Hey." Nera said, a small frown on her face as she looked down at me. "We're going out. Do you want anything? It's from the McDicks down the street." She pointed out the window I had been looking through to emphasize where she'd be. I thought for a moment, considering all my possible options. After reviewing a small safe list hidden in my mind, I finally decided.
"A coffee. Medium, black, no actually. I want four Splenda." I held up four fingers, giving Nera a reassuring smile. She always worried about how much I ate and about what it was I ate. I don't know why. It's not like I'm extremely thin or anything. I'm a whole 98 pounds! That's not very small for a girl of my stature. Nera always seemed to think otherwise though, and it often lead to arguments until someone stepped in or she stormed off.
As if sensing exactly what was about to happen, Strin opened his mouth to destress the situation.
"C'mon Nera. I'm so hungry I think I'm going to die." He whined. His painted fingers tugged on the back of Nera's black sweater. She glanced over at him, only to sigh when she saw his puppy-eyes look. She always gave in to his puppy eyes and he knew it. She cast one final glance at me before walking out of the doors just to the side of us.
"Thank you Strinny." I thanked him with a smile. He had this big brother attitude towards me, a soft spot if you will, and I could basically get away with anything as long as I smiled. He stepped forward to ruffle my long purple hair.
"No problem Ray." He gave me a simple sad smile. Epic cleared his throat behind Strin, causing his head to whip towards him. Elyc, the blue haired bastard, pointed towards the door. Nera stood outside, impatiently tapping her foot as she glared at Strin through the window. He let out a warm and deep laugh before turning to walk out himself.
"We'll be back soon, 'Kay Raina?" Cryst told me, waving a small goodbye as she followed Elyc through the door. I nodded to her to show I heard what she said. Cryst and Elyc remind me of cotton candy. Besides the fact of Elyc's blue hair and Cryst's pink hair, the were both so very sweet. Elyc was a tad short and Cryst was very bubbly. They were always by each other too. I would swear they were together had Elyc not told me he was gay a few months back. I remember the night it happened. The whole night had turned out a mess.
I giggled to myself just thinking about it. Poor Elyc. His blue hair was sticking up crazily, vomit coated the front of his dark green shirt, and his eyes were red with tears. I had been washing my face in the sink when I heard a low moan along with a small sniffle. When I turned to the doorway Elyc was standing there looking horrid. I had pulled him in and shut the door, checking to make sure no one saw. I asked him what happened and he just broke down, sinking to his knees and clinging to my waist. I wasn't sure what to do so I pet his hair down, muttering soothing words. Soon we were both on the ground with his head in my lap as I cradled it and pet him. He had quieted down and after a few minutes of silence he choked out the words which he tried to deny were true his whole life. 'I'm gay.'
After that night I found out he didn't want anyone else to know. He didn't want it to be true, but he had kissed someone he 'really, really shouldn't have.' And it came crashing down on him. Oh well, nothing had changed after that besides the fact whenever Luukas was in the room, Elyc would try to avert his eyes and make a quick escape for the first two months. I sighed. Speaking of Luukas, I should make my way to the clearing before his whole group gets back. I looked at the time. 12:14. If I hurry I should've able to make it without incident.
