It's been ten years since Xena gave her life for the greater good to protect the souls of the dead. Gabrielle still carries Xena's ashes along with all their memories, though she doesn't share those stories as much as she used to. In place of the joy that Xena had given her was anger, bitterness, and hatred for the innocent's whom Xena gave her life for.

Tartarus is a horrible place. Upon her death Xena chose to bide there to pay for her evil past despite the good she did in the end. Ten years in Tartarus. Ten years torturing herself and blaming herself for Gabrielle's pain. Xena knew her death would cause a world of pain and she had wanted to feel that pain.
