The blury image up above me, red liquid rapidly dripping from a atrocious grin. As I winced, my eyes adjusting to the darkness I felt something on my cheek. I slowly began to panic inside, gasping for air. But then I noticed it was only soft hair caressing my cheek... and I could also smell a familiar scent.. "Marla?", I managed to whisper my lips berely making out the words. BUT all I heard was maniacal laughter and then the world went PITCH BLACK—
"Hi, how are you today?" a cheerful familiar voice said.
I perked up "Marla! I'm doing okay, how was your math test?" I asked curiously.
"Ugh"- her forehead wrinkled "You know I detest math", she said with a grumpy tone.
Marla's been my best friend since grade school and we are as close as sisters. I cherish our friendship more than anything in this world. We might be friends but sometimes we are polar opposites. While I'm clumsy, sometimes shy, and good when it comes to math, she dances, is daring and hates anything related to math.
We also are different when it comes to appearance. In contrast to my shoulder length curly bright red hair, her hair is pitched black straight and very long. She looks like a dark goddess, sometimes people don't believe she's even real because of how beautiful she is. She's as pale as the moon and I'm a tanned ivory color. In high school someone thought it was clever to nickname us, moon and sun. And the names kind of sticked like glue from that point. So much that people from our high school call us that in college. They literly managed to forget our real names...
"Oh yea... sorry it completely slipped from my mind, I shouldn't of asked." I said with a apologetic look.
"It's okay, don't apologize silly." –Sigh- "It's been a terrible college week. I don't even know if this is what I really want to study... I mean this is just so stressfull...I just choose this college because it was closer to my house...and picked a random thing to study.
Makes me wonder, what I'm going to do with my life." Marla expressed."Don't worry... maybe what your studying isn't for you. You need to look into all your options and figure out what you want to do with your life and what you're going to study." I advised.
"Perhaps you're right..." "Anyways... want to go out for a cold ice cream on our way to your house ? I mean.. I'd be nice to relax, and forget about college for atleast a few seconds." Marla said.
"Sure, that's sounds sweet and delicious." I said with a smile.
We walked all the way to a local ice cream shop. As we were there, the friendly clerk handed us our ice cream. He said, "Hope you enjoy it, girls. "
Mine was strawberry while Marla's was her favorite, chocolate."OOOHH, THIS CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM IS AMAZING! IT'S SOO COLD AND DELIOUS!" Marla exclaimed.
She licked the ice cream and looked up at me in a seductive way, her blue sparkling eyes piercing through, sending chills down my spine; she managed to say, "How does your taste?" And she softly licked her own lips.I felt the burning sun hit my face and blushed softly. "Leme see", I say while I lick it. I relax as the taste freezes my tounge gently. "Oh! It tastes so good."
"Haha you look so sweet licking that ice cream, A."
What kind of comment is that , is that supposed to be a sexual reference or something? Does she think she can always tease me like that just because I'm younger?? I akwardly thought of what to say but nothing managed to escape my lips.
She fixed her gaze on me and spoke as if reading my mind, "Like an adorable pup you just want to squeeze the life out of!" She laughed. Her blue eyes dancing and coming more alive with each chuckle.
She really does enjoy to tease me, I thought to myself. Somehow her teasing makes me flush a bright pink color around my cheeks. I bit my lip.
"Stop making fun of me", I spurt with a childish tone and hide my face with the ice cream cone.
Marla continues to laugh at me.
. . .
That was the last time I saw her. It's been two weeks and I'm worried sick. I know that she's not avoiding me; I'm her best friend why would she avoid me? Something's up.
She lives alone since her parents are all the way across the world right now for work. I don't know if I should call her parents or not since they're legitimately strict. I'm terrified that if I do tell them she's missing, they're going to threaten to take her away like last time she got a C in a class.
So I did the next big thing I could posibly do and decided to file a missing person case. Although I did find it odd the police station mentioned this was the 50th case. Then when I went home I figured out why. There have been multiple disappearances lately; it's all over the local news. There's definitely something terribly wrong going on this town... but it's my only clue. I got to find her. I made up my mind and I don't care if its puts me in danger, I will find my best friend.___________________________
