Prologue

Harry was walking home one night, a different, quicker route than normal. Through an alleyway, that he never went through. Whistling to himself, he turned into the alley, hands shoved in his sweater pockets.

That's when he heard it. The little whimper. It was quiet, and whoever - or whatever - made it was scared.

Harry stopped whistling, slowing his steps to a stop. He looked around the darkened alley, an eyebrow raised, curious of what the sound was.

"Hello...?" he called softly. There was another whimper and he saw the slightest movement out of the corner of his eye. "Is someone there...?" Someone grunted from behind Harry, startling him. Harry slowly turned around and he gasped at the sight in front of him.

A boy, around his age he guessed, was curled up against the wall of the building. Harry slowly inched closer to the boy.

"Hey there..." he whispered, kneeling down in front of him. "Are you alright...?"

The boy whimpered and pressed closer to the wall, if that was even possible.

"G-g-go 'way." he stammered out shakily, his whole body trembling.

"Hey, its okay." Harry said softly, scooting closer to the boy. "What's your name, love?"

"Name...?" the boy asked. "L-Louis..."

"Louis, huh?" Harry smiled softly. "Well, I like that name. My name is Harry."

The thing that happened next really really baffled Harry.

Two pointy ears slowly poked up from Louis' messy brown hair. Harry's eyes widened and he stared in astonishment at the ears.

Kitten ears. Two fluffy kitten ears.

"Whoa..." Harry whispered. The ears flattened back against Louis' head and Louis whimpered.

"H-Ha-Harry will n-not hurt L-Louis...? Please..." Louis begged, trembling. Harry raised an eyebrow at the way Louis spoke, but shook his head.

"No. I'm not gonna hurt you." he said quietly.

"B-but Louis has e-ears..." Louis said, "Everyone h-hurts Louis because of his e-ears..."

"I won't, Louis." Harry promised. "Now... what are you doing out here? Don't you have a family?" he asked, sitting down on his bum in front of Louis.

"No.." Louis frowned. "Louis h-had a cage... But cage d-did not talk back..."

"You... talked to a cage...?" Harry asked slowly.

"Y-yes... Only th-thing to ta-talk to." Louis said sadly. "And m-mean sc-scientist."

"Scientist?" Harry raised his eyebrows. "So... you were made by a scientist?"

"M-made?" Louis furrowed his eyebrows. "Do n-not understand.." Harry took a deep breath.

"Here... Why don't you come back to my flat?" he asked. "Its warmer, and I'll give you food."

Louis hesitated before nodding slowly, uncurling himself. That's when a fluffy tail unwrapped itself from Louis' waist. It was fluffly like the cute kitty ears, but even cuter.

"You're just full of surprises..." Harry mumbled, standing up.

After he had helped Louis stand up, they began the short walk to Harry's two bedroom apartment.

Harry didn't exactly know why he was bringing this boy home, but he didn't want to just leave the poor guy in the alley. He didn't know how long he was gonna stay, or anything really. He was just worried about now.

He can worry about the details later.
