Chapter 3

"Brant! You doin' okay back there?" I called over my shoulder.

"None tried to escape yet!" he returned. I heard hoof beats then, a calf give a slight panicked moo. More hoof beats. "Never mind!" I looked back as Brant got his lasso out and went after the stray calf.

"Take the rear?" Wyatt called. I pulled back on Moon and held up the rear as Brant tried to push the calf in the right direction.

"If Mom and Dad were here this would be a hell of a lot easier," Wyatt whined.

"Yeah well, they ain't here!" I snapped. "We have to move the cattle back before the bonfire. Do something to entertain yourself!"

"Finally!" Brant yelled as the calf ran back to the heard. "Thought I'd never--"

"OH GIVE ME A HOME! WHERE THE THE BUFFALO ROAM! WHERE THE DEER AND THE ANTELOPE PLAAAY!" Wyatt blared. "WHERE SELDOM IS HEARD! A DISCOURAGING WORD! AND WHERE THE SKY'S ARE NOT CLOUDY ALL DAAAAAY!" Wyatt continued his song as Brant and I just rode on, trying not to laugh at his cracking and out of tune voice.

Wyatt knew he sucked at singing; that's what made it funny. He sang to make people laugh at his own crappy singing.

Once Wyatt gave his big finish, Brant and I dropped our reigns to give a well earned applause. Wyatt stood up on top of his trusted horse and gave a bow before dropping back in the saddle. "Consider yourselves entertained!"

Wood cracked as Brant threw branches and logs into the growing fire.

Almost everyone we knew was here. Even the prissy girls that I thought would never even dream of coming.

There were only few girls I knew that lived in this area. Those few were Jessica and Macy Mills, Abby Liber, and Jenna and Sami Derman. We were sitting on the hay bails carefully placed around the bonfire, roasting marshmallows and eating them right off the stick.

"So where's Micah?" I asked, swallowing a very hot, cooked to perfection, golden brown marsh (I'm very picky about how my marshmallows are cooked).

"Oh I'm sure he's somewhere with your brothers," Abby said. "You know how those three are when they're together."

"That and they hav Travis with 'em," I muttered.

"Oh Travis," Macy said, leaning back on the hay bail. "The cowboy who stole your heart in the barn on the night you won the barrel race." She looked up at me with a sly grin.

"Oh man, you're blushin' hard, Bailey," Jenna giggled.

"Oh shut up," I chuckled.

"OOOH BAAAILEY!" Brant yelled. He came up behind me and gave me a huge hug from behind. "I love you so much! You're the bestest sister in the whole wide world! Have I mentioned I love you?"

"What do you want, bimbo?" I asked with a sarcastic sigh and a roll of the eyes.

"We ran out of Mountain Dew and Dr. Pepper," he said. "And I'm asking you to go get more."

"How many bottles?"

"Six of each."

"You got the cash, big guy?" I smirked.

"Um, maybe," he laughed. "Yes, I got money for you to use it on. Take the money and go." He took my hat off, messed my hair before dropping a stack of bills in my lap before shoving my hat back on. I laughed as he walked away.

"You want one of us to come with ya?" Sami asked.

"Naw," I said, getting up.

"That's my job!" Travis nearly tackled me when he ran up and hugged me.

"Well, hello to you too." I looked back over my shoulder to meet a pair of cheerful blue eyes. Travis pecked my cheek before looking to the gang.

"Ladies." He tipped his hat before we walked to Travis's pickup.

Travis swung our hands as we walked. "So what were you guys talkin' about?" he asked  in a very annoying and girly tone.

"We were just catchin' up." Travis opened the truck door, took a very large and enphisized bow, and gave a guesture like you see in the old black and white TV shows. I laughed before climbing in and he shutting the door.

Sorry guys! I know it's short! And super sorry for not updating as soon as I thought I would!
