When you lose everything, everything that makes you you, it simply means it's time to become someone new, someone stronger, someone better. What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger. That's what I believe. My name is Aaron Colfer, and am a senior in Wilson Tibedeaux Memorial High School.
Aaron walked head raised high, with a slightly feminine gait as he moved towards the school main entrance, his ear piece plugged in as he read The End of the Matter. He had finished the books severally, but whenever he read a book again, he kept finding interesting details that he had missed earlier. Normally, Aaron does his best to avoid the homophobic Neanderthals that roamed the hallways of his school but today while engrossed in his book he didn't notice the approaching jocks who slammed purposefully painfully against him, and he fell down and yelped in shock and pain.
"What's that, fag?" Abram, one of the bullies asked. Despite, the fear that flooded his veins, he took a deep breathe and stood up dusting his clothes and said as confidently as he can
"Well, if we are done with our morning homophobic routine. I have a class to get to" not allowing either of them to say anything. He walked away confidently, and went to his favorite class. English.
"My name is Dean McWest, and am seventeen and that's it there is no story to tell" Aaron looked up at the other teen, he had dark blue eyes that had deep churning storm and conflicting emotions that told of a story that would fill pages. His dark hair sticking up in different directions, with chiseled features. He was very handsome in a striking fashion, but it was his eyes that drew the questions out of Aaron.
As Aaron walked towards lunch, he was ambushed by the bullies and was walled in to the wall, hand he thought This was what it meant to be stuck between a rock and a hard place.
"So you think you can be cocky, eh?" The other one asked. Harry, Aaron thought.
"Or you just like cock?" Abram said laughing a his bad pun, Aaron fought the fear that filled him up faster than a rushing dam. This part of the hallway was mostly empty, and no one had the guts to stand up to this guys. No one except Charice, who came her purple tinted hair blowing as she shook her hair in rage and annoyance and threatened with the name of her huge boyfriend, when the boy from English class came to them looking worried, but when Charice invited him he looked scared for a brief moment then rushed away.
"Well, that was weird" Charice said as she tried to move Aaron towards the cafeteria, but Aaron shook his head,
"I gotta go check on him"
"Why?" Charice asked
"He seems like he needs someone to talk to. See you later. Don't worry I got lunch in my back" Aaron said when Charice got that big sister/mother look she always got when ever she worries over Aaron's well being. "See you" Aaron said and pecked her cheeks and took up his messenger bag, and walked away. He tracked Dean to the auditorium and when he got close he heard a voice. A clear effortless voice that ran over notes with stress. The lyrics floated to Aaron's ear and the emotion and delivery made Aaron say 'Wow' before he knew and he saw Dean clasp his mouth quickly and looked for who made the sound.
"Hey" Aaron said as he stepped out "Sorry for you know snooping"
"Uhm, no problem." Dean said looking slightly uncomfortable "I gotta go anyway"
"You have an amazing voice, Dean" Aaron said smiling
"Thanks" Dean said smiling genuinely
"What part do you sing?" Aaron asked as he made to the edge of the stage and sat down and gestured for Dean to sit as well.
"Uhm, countertenor" Dean said "Do you sing?"
"I can't carry a tune even if my life depended on it" Aaron replied smiling "Charice however is an amazing singer, but personally I think you might give her a run for her money" Dean smilied and Aaron couldn't help smile at the cute dimples that showed
"So why are you here?" Aaron asked
"Lunch is the worst nightmare of any high-schooler, especially if you are a new student" Dean shrugged
"Yea, but why are you here?" Aaron asked with emphasis on the you
"I don't know, I just don't want to deal with anyone, I just needed to get away. Sometimes things seem to cloud my mind and music is the only way to clear my thoughts" Dean replied
"Why are you here?" Dean asked after a beat.
"Well ,you looked kinda conflicted and like you needed someone to talk to so, here I am. Plus you actually seemed to care when those Neanderthals shoved me in the hallway, not a lot of people do that here. Most people just ignore that and me" Aaron explained as emotionless as he could.
"Why are they mean to you?" Dean asked.
"Because am different and they don't like anything being different" Aaron said as though it was obvious.
"Different, how?" Dean asked "Oh because you're gay"
"Exactly" Aaron stated "Considering you haven't started running the other way I'll assume you aren't a homophobe"
"No, am not" Dean said "plus even If was, I don't see why I would want to put my ideology on someone violently. I hate violence " Dean said
"Have you had some violent encounters?" Aaron asked but Dean dipped his eyes down to avoid eye contact which to Aaron screamed Yes!
"Am curious about you Dean McWest, but I must admit I want to be your friend" Aaron said and brought his hand for a friendly shake, and Dean brought his out after a momentary pause. And their eyes met. Aaron hitched a breath at the intensely dark blue eyes and wild hair. Wow!!
"Well, I have Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches in my bag and I am willing to share if you are willing to sing once more" Aaron said looking very serious, causing Dean to smile once more.
"Food for the gods" Dean said taking the sandwich that Aaron offered him. Both teens spent the lunch-time eating the sandwiches and sharing Aaron's one juice pouche, though Aaron was unsuccessful in compelling Dean to sing once more, he was successful in making Dean smile several times before the end of lunch.
After last period, Aaron saw Dean looking somewhat lost in the driveway and steeled himself as he walked up to the other teen.
"Hey, Stranger" Aaron said smiling
"Hey, was looking for you" Dean admitted smiling softly and Aaron mentally high-fived himself though he didn't know why. Okay, he knew why but he wanted to remain in denial for a bit more time.
"Really, well here I am" Aaron said gesturing his body "You got a ride?"
"Yea, my cousin is picking me up" Dean said "He should be here any minute now, so I wanted to ask for your number if you didn't mind"
"Oh sure," Aaron said taking Dean's phone and typing in his digits and saving it while he was taking Dean's nunber, a black jeep drove in and honked drawing both teens attention when they looked they saw the driver waving at Dean.
"Well I gotta go" Dean said smiling at Aaron before he ran to the car, and waved at Aaron as the car drove off.
"Is he gay?" Aaron turned violently to see Charice looking a him a teasing smile about to break out from her lips.
"I wouldn't know, I just meet him" Aaron said "Though if he was he would have said when I outed myself to him, so probably no"
"But you like him" Charice whispered loudly into his ear, teasing him.
"No" Aaron denied quickly "I mean he is cute, but I just like him like a friend and even if I wanted to be more, well I can't" Aaron said but before Charice could say anything her huge boyfriend Cam appeared
"Hey babe" he said as he reached them "Hey Aaron"
Aaron liked Cam, though a football player he had never bullied him even before he started dating Charice, and even since he started dating Charice he became Aaron's 'bodyguard' though second to Charice.
"Okay see you guys" Aaron called out as Cam dropped him at his house.
"Text me boo, we got a lot to talk about" Charice said as Cam's car drove off.
"Hey mum" Aaron said as he got into his house.
"Hey Aaron" his mum came out her loose clothing that had splotches of paint meaning she had been painting "How was school?"
"Okay" Aaron shrugged and hugged her, when he got close he looked at her close, looking for new stress lines and wrinkles.
"Am okay" Annie answered her son's unasked question. "I got a call today" she said as she ushered him to the kitchen and brought down a pan of butter cookies, Aaron's favourite. Most parents may fuss over giving their children unlimited access to sugar, but Aaron was the one that fussed over his mum's health and sugar intake.
"They want to make the purchase" she said dramatically,
"Really?" Aaron asked and hugged his mother.
"It's not much but we should be able to put some in your college fund account and have some change left" She smiled hopefully her brown eyes glistening, it was clear where Aaron got his looks from.
"Don't worry" she said to her son "We'll make it just yet" Aaron knew how much she struggled to get money placed in his college fund account in time for him to go to college, after the death of his....no he wasn't going to go there.
"We will"Aaron smiled. "I met someone new in school today" Aaron dished out the only worthy news from his day to cheer his mother up.
"Really who?" She asks smiling warmly.
"Uhm a new student, his name is Dean" Aaron said biting into his butter cookie barely restraining himself from moaning at the taste.
"Really,is he cute?" Annie asked
"Mum" Aaron said aghast "Well yea, he is. He has dark blue eyes, black hair that sticks up in different directions. Taller than me, defined jawline..."
"What colours do you want as your wedding theme?" Annie teased
"Mum" Aaron rolled his eyes and took his bag to go upstairs while trying though failing to avoid her noticing he was blushing.
Aaron made surprising quick work of removing his clothes, despite the layers, while he did that his phone chimed and he assumed it was Charice texting him, but when he looked it was an unsaved number.
