"Hey, Charlie." Bo greeted while I walked through the door. He had a guilty look in his eyes which meant one thing- he will apologize.
You see, guys don't say, 'I'm sorry.' To each other. We tend to say, 'We cool?' Or the, 'We good?' So, after I hung my shoes in the rack, I was hit in the face by the good o'l, "We good?"
I nodded, he nodded back, and we kind of stood there.
"So-uh- your working tonight...what did you and Rae do?"
(Bo is my boss- and best friend, so we say; 'We good?' A lot.)
"We hung out at her place. She's cool." I replied.
"Mhm." He smirked, I rolled my eyes, "What time is it?"
"You have forty five minuets 'till you need to be there." I nodded; and slid past him, walking into my room.
I changed into my "uniform" which is pretty much anything black, because, well, everyone had to wear black.
I re-did my hair three times, then walked into the living room.
"Ready?" I asked, Bo was wearing his "uniform" also.
"Yep."
~~~~~~~~~~~~
We finally made it to the bar, the lights were on and Jeffery was cleaning off the counters.
I slipped past him and made it behind the main bar, re-stocking and putting together the beer table. I poured ice on it and placed twenty six beers in it.
I checked my watch and noticed it is already nine fifteen. Jeffery was gone, and Bo was behind the main bar on the other side. I quickly turned off the lights and motioned for the DJ to start, he did so as the disco lights started and a line was already formed outside. The open light flicked on as I opened the door, "Hey, Welcome to Bosies'." I smiled.
The bass began thumbing to a random beat as young woman in short dresses and men with shiny shoes trailed into the club. Drink orders started shooting at me in seven different directions.
"WAIT." I yelled. Everyone silenced around me. "Sir, you said you wanted a Bloody Marry?" I asked, the man nodded as I pointed at him. "Okay, everyone raise your hand if you want one." Thirteen hands raised as I nodded.
Well this will be a long night.
~~~~~~~~
Everyone was served and intoxicated. Now bumping and grinding on the dance floor. Bo rang the bell, "LAST CALL!" He screamed.
Seven people scurried over, mostly woman fanning over Bo, and a couple girls asking for one last shot.
After they downed their drinks, everyone was pushed out by the bouncers. Bo clicked the open sign off, the DJ put his equipment away, and I cleaned my side of the counter. "You ready?" Bo asked, just as I placed my time card back into the holder.
"Yep." I nodded, exiting the building.
"Ya'll lock up!" Bo yelled to the bouncers.
~~~~~~~~~~
The controller fumbled between my hands as I hissed at the screen, clicking 'A' as fast as I could until the enemy's were finally killed. Bo and I chest bumped and hooted. "That kill was awesome, bro." He laughed as the next episode loaded I chucked and tosses the x-box remote into the coffee table.
We were playing Lego Star Wars X-Box game. Don't judge us- it is amazingly fun.
I scattered into the kitchen, opening the fridge. "Aye, Charlie?" He called, "yeah?" I replied.
"You did awesome last night." He complimented, "You too." I chuckled.
We sat down as the dining room table, which had four envelopes scattered on top of it. "Okay..." Bo muttered to himself, sorting the bills out. He pays rent and water, because he is way more wealthy, and I pay phone bill, electric, and cable. But cable the bill doesn't get here for about a week.
The phone bill is twenty nine dollars a month, Electricity is two hundred, and cable is one hundred and forty three. My pay check is around eight hundred dollars, so I usually get half of it.
"Is my pay check ready?" I asked.
"Yeah, it's at the bar." He replied, calculator in hand.
After that, I walked to the bar, as I was picking up the white envelope with my name on it, (I looked for an envelope with the name 'Finn' on it because I'm utterly stupid.)
The soft sound of a door opening was behind me, followed by a cooling breeze. "Sorry; we're closed." I greeted, without looking behind me.
"Oh I know." A familiar voice sad behind me, I could almost see the smirk in her voice. A smile stretched onto my lips as I turned around, facing Rae.
She wore a large flannel that was folded at the elbows that was covered in flour, and overalls. Her hair tucked into a messy pony tail. She held her hands behind her back, hiding something.
"How did you know I was here, Stalker?" I joked, she shrugged.
"I was here last night."
I nodded, I didn't see her last night, maybe Bo served her. I walked toward her, and we started walking toward the door together.
"May I ask why you are here?" I asked.
"Well yes, Finn. Yes you can."
"Why are you here....?" I scrunched my eyebrows together.
"Finn, you, being the glorious artist you are, helped me ever so. You helped me by decorating many cakes, as you remember. And guess what? I won. I got a raise! As the great play-write himself once said, 'A thousand thanks." She finished, she moved whatever was behind her back in front of me, which was a blue frosted cupcake.
"Why; you are welcome, and thank you." I grinned, taking the cupcake.
"Well I should get back to the shop, I'm the only one there and they are installing an espresso machine. You should stop by...have a coffee, or something." She tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear.
"Yeah, okay. Um, sure. Maybe tonight?"
"I'm there all night and day, come by anytime." She twirled around and started to walk away, one foot in front of the other.
"Oh, and Finn? That cupcake means something special. It is a metaphor for something bigger than one can imagine." She turned toward me, "once you eat it, the colossal significance will wither away to nothing but pure imagination. So save it, okay?"
My eyebrows furrowed and I merely nodded. After that, she disappeared.
