I passed by him on my way to third period everyday. It was like clockwork; I'd walk down the hall, my science book in hand, and he'd scurry in other direction, desperate to make it to his class on time.

Other than that, we rarely crossed paths. Sure, I had countless chances to talk to him, but I couldn't shake the feeling that if our conversation wasn't sparked by a matter of circumstance, it would seem out of place.

Then again, any interaction we'd have would seem out of place; we were just too different.

So I left the silent tension I felt around him fester and bubble until he was all I could think about.

I left those three words unspoken until they became the only thing I wanted to escape my lips.
