teenagers in movies had it easy

the only things they fought about with their parents
were parties
and why they should have a lock on their door

now I'm a teenager

and the fights i have with my parents are over things
like human fucking rights
and why you cant just call someone
a fucking slur

there's no falling in love
and doing stupid things with your friends
there's just convincing your people that
living is worth it
and that in the end we all have fucked up shit going on

theres no following your dreams

or just doing what you love
not when the thing that you love
is the arts

and i don't know when doodling in the back of my book
became a coping mechanism
but i sure as hell didn't see this shit happen to the teenagers
in that show
or in that movie

none of them told me that having
anxiety and depression
is completely normal
or that simply asking for help can stop a
downwards spiral of depression

those teenagers never get saved
by people they'll never meet
or people who live halfway across the world
they don't have to deal with not knowing who the fuck they are
or what they like
but still have the compulsive urge to label themselves

or break down three times a week
when ten different teachers shove
ten different loads of homework
down your throat

after all who needs mental health?

right?

not when we have things like

unrealistic standards
to live up to

and these are the best years of our lives?

right?

but in the end
teenagers in movies just

have things way too

easy
