"Rj seriously, I need last night's homework, and I know you got all of it right," The day before I had rushed home and didn't have time to grab my math homework from the teacher, on account of a call from my dad saying that Maxine got out; She's our husky. Max just turned two years old and she's known for getting out of the house. Lately, my dad and I have been trying to train her. My mom isn't usually home when I get there so she doesn't have a chance to train her with us. Rj punched my shoulder,"Why can't you just do it yourself," Rj said teasingly. "I honestly hate you sometimes, I really do, you know that?" I said sarcastically.
It was quiet, no cars, not even the distant sound of an airplane. Yet you could still hear the drip and drop of last night's rain. Our shoe's constantly got more muddy as we strolled along on the dirt road. We lived in a very remote place. The town didn't have too much to offer either, only a few convenient stores and a supermarket. We were coming up to his house pretty soon; he lived there with his parents, Judy, and Michael. Rj had an older brother named Brennen, but he had gone off to war and would be back home during Christmas. Before Rj headed down his driveway, he took off his backpack and unzipped it. "Here's the math homework, just make sure to give it to me in the morning when you see me," He just smiled, handed the paper over and made his way down towards his front door.
I had known Rj now for six years now. We met in fifth grade during a school project because neither of us had partner's, so we just paired up. It was an English Language Arts project on making a short story. I don't remember it too well but I think we wrote about an empire in Rome, with Gods and all that fun stuff. I also recall getting an A+; Rj's always been a great writer, the teacher was impressed. Look like that turned out pretty well.
My thoughts stopped as I heard a loud cracking noise. I looked up to see a near-by branch start to break off of a rotting tree trunk. It splashed into a mud puddle beside me and the splash soaked my whole outfit. I sighed and continued down the road to my house. "Ugh, why me, why do I have to deal with this," I groaned to myself. I felt like the road was never going to end. I glanced upward at the trees and felt something small and wet fall onto my face. Was it really starting to rain again? Moments after, the brown filth on my shirt was washed away by the downfall. I immediately bolted down the road to get to the dry heaven I call home.
I finally got there and managed to get inside without getting everything wet and muddy. My dad called out to see if it was me, "Peyton, is that you sweety? Do you need a towel, I'll bring one anyways," My dad and I have always had a great relationship. His name is Oliver. He's a mechanic and has always loved cars and working on them. He's tried passing down the skill to me but I've never quite gotten the hang of it, but I have a pretty good knowledge on cars. I looked down at how soaking wet I was; I hated the feeling of wet clothes sticking to your body. I saw my dad come around the corner with two towels and a new pair of clothes. "Thanks, how was your day?" I asked him as I headed into the bathroom to dry off and change into my new clothes. "It was good, thanks for asking, but there was no business at the shop," He said through the bathroom door, "And how was your day?" I opened the door after changing and stretched.
"It was alright, besides from being splashed with mud and poured on, Rj helped me with my math homework, hey, you found Max yet? I asked partly concerned because he usually ran to me when I got home. "No," He sounded concerned as well, "I've looked around the property and down the road but nothing, I mean we can't go and look for him now, not in the pouring rain," He told me and turned around to head to the kitchen. I was almost on the verge of tears because Maxine has never been gone for this long. "Dad, we have to go look for her!" I yelled down the hall, "What about dinner, I promise she'll come home soon," He turned around to see tears rolling down my cheeks. "Go get your rain gear on and grab the flashlights,"
