A New Life in Vermont

I couldn’t believe we are moving to Vermont. I am going to miss California so much. I tried to talk my parents out of it but they refuse to listen to me. I had to leave everything I’ve even known. The beach, my friends, my boyfriend. How was I going to survive? Besides losing everything, it will be cold. It’s not exactly cold in Cali. It’s final, I’m going to die. Halfway, well in Arkansas, I was thinking about jumping out of the car but then I reconsidered that thought. So here I am in my dad’s car on our way to Vermont. We are currently in Ohio. A few more hours to go until we are at our new home.

******New Day******

We woke up at 6 this morning to start back our trip to Vermont. We are 3 hours away. My friend texted me and told me that my ex boyfriend already has a new girlfriend and it’s only been 2 days since we broke up. I officially hate my life. I need some sleep.

*****In Vermont****

“Wake up Melody, we are here.” I wish my mom would just let me sleep forever. I look out the car window at my new house. It was big, maybe even bigger than the one we had back in Cali. I grab my purse and get out of the car. My mom, dad, and I all walk up to the house together. We wait for my dad to unlock the door. As soon as I walk in I am in shock. It’s even bigger than it looks. The silence was disturbed once the people who helped us move started bringing stuff in. I didn’t want to get in the way so I made my way upstairs to pick out my room. All the rooms were beautiful and big. The one I picked out was had pink walls and a balcony. When I walked out on the balcony a beautiful view of mountains welcomed me. Maybe Vermont won’t be that bad after all.....

I heard my mom knock on the door.

“Come in!” I said

“Hey sweety. How you liking it here so far?”

“It’s ok. It will just take some time.”

“I know. But there is a jewelry store down the road. Do you want to go check it out with me?”

“Sure.”

We drove the the store and that’s when my life changed.

****At Who’s Phil****

When we open the door a man welcomes us and introduces himself:

“Hello. Welcome to Who’s Phil. I’m Phillip Burnham, the owner of the store.”

“Hello Phillip, I’m Mary and this is my daughter Melody. We just moved here.”

“It’s nice to meet you two. And welcome to Vermont! Where did you move from?”

“California.”

“California is a lovely place. I love it there.”

“You’ve been there?” I foolishly asked. It’s not like this little town is cut off from the world.

“Yes, with my sons for business. Speaking of my sons they should be around here somewhere. Let me go find one of them and have them help you. I would but I have to finish making the new jewelry. Just have a look around and I’ll have one of them out here.”

“Ok thanks.” my mom and I say at the first time.

My mom goes over to the earrings and I go to the necklaces. I found one I really liked but it’s on the top shelf and I can’t reach it. I stand on my tip-toes but I stumble and start to fall. That’s when someone strong catches me. I look up and immediately get lost in his eyes.

“That was a close one.” he says. His voice is like a million angels singing.

“Yeah, sorry I almost brought down the whole shelf.”

“Haha it’s ok. We all make mistakes. I’m Andre by the way.”

“I’m Melody.” I said still lost in his eyes.

“Here you go, this was the one you wanted. Right?” he says while handing me the necklace.

“Yeah, thanks. It’s so pretty. Did your father make it?”

“You’re welcome, and yes. He made all of this.” he told me while pointing at everything in the store.

“Well he makes really exquisite jewelry.”

“Yep. I help sometimes but I am better at playing the piano and bass.”

“You play piano? I do too!”

“That’s so cool.”

Before I could reply my phone went off and “Good Day Sunshine” by The Beatles started playing.

“You like The Beatles?”

“I love them. They are just so talented.”

“I like them also. We have a lot in common.” Oh my gosh that smile.

“I guess we do.” I said.

“Melody did you find something?” leave it to my mom to ruin a moment like this.

“Yes mom I did. This is Andre by the way.

“Ok, well make sure it’s what you want. Hello Andre. I’m Mary Cypret .”

“Ok mom.”

“Hello Mrs. Cypret. It’s nice to meet you and your daughter.”

“You can call me Mary, hun. And it’s nice to meet you. Melody, we have to get going. Your dad will be wondering where we are.”

“Ok mom.” I turned to Andre. I was really sad to be leaving him.

“Let me just ring you two up.” Andre says.

My mom walks ahead of us and Andre takes that as an opportunity to whisper to me

“I’ll see you soon.”

Andre rings us up and then it’s time to leave. Before I go he hugs me and slips a piece of paper into my hand.
