I looked around with satisfaction. Despite the fact of being in the Clique, I wanted more. I practically had all the guys in the school begging at my feet and I’m popular. Josh, my hot boyfriend, is to die for. What more can I want? Well I have an answer for that question. My desire was not to be a beta, it was to be the alpha. The ultimate leader of the Clique. Too bad that position is already taken.
I took a bite of my salad pretending to be listening to everything Erin said. Erin. I hated that girl. Sure she was my best friend since the seventh grade, but I was actually planning on her downfall this whole time. I quickly focused my attention to her to make sure that I could answer a question if it comes up.
Erin was talking about what she would wear to the party at the end of the week. Perfect. That’s the place where her ultimate demise will occur if all goes according to plan. Well of course it will. I’ve been through all the scenarios from best to worst, and my plan doesn’t fail in any of them. But first, I had to make sure my partner was willing.
“Excuse me. I’m going to use the ladies room.” Erin waved her hand as if giving me permission. Please, like I needed her to let me go. Soon, she’s gonna come crawling around and begging ME to pay her some attention.
The door to the cafeteria swung open and I strutted through the hallway like I owned it. It boosted my confidence to see people turning around with either envy or admiration as I walked past. Soon, I would have everyone kissing my feet. As I walked, I contemplated my decision a week ago.
-FLASHBACK-
“Hello Daniel.” The boy in front of me swiftly turned around at the sound of my voice. He slammed his locker shut.
“Umm… H-hi Melissa,” he stuttered looking around for a familiar face, but I was the only one here. I could see the puzzled look he gave me when he realized that Erin was not around. I could see why. Usually, I don’t speak to him unless Erin’s around. “What b-brings you here?” He smiled weakly.
“I want to speak to you about your little crush on your friend, Erin.” At this, Daniel gulped.
“W-what are you-“
“Let’s cut to the chase. I want you to ask her out.”
He looked alarmed. “Wh- H- How did you find out? Is this some sort of joke?”
“No, I heard her talk about waiting for you to ask her out today at lunch.” I smiled warmly to keep up the act. He apparently bought it because he was in front of me grinning like an idiot. I inwardly shriveled my nose in disgust.
“Oh…” He thought about it. “Okay! I’ll do it tomorrow!” Wow, he looks like he won the lottery.
“Just make sure to ask her at lunch.” He nodded absently still in his own little world. I shook my head slightly as I walked to my next class.
-END-
I smiled a little as I pushed open the bathroom door. That little prank and a little pressuring from the fact that everyone was looking at her did the trick. She said goodbye to Daniel for good. I fixed my makeup and my hair while looking in the mirror. What does she have that I don’t have?
I whipped out my cell phone and dialed the number 2 on my speed dial. Patiently, I waited for someone to pick up.
“Hey, what’s up?” I smiled wider at his voice.
“Nothing, I just need you to do a little favor for me…” You better watch out, Erin, because I’m coming after you.
